Trust vs Mistrust

In age of 18 months as infants, we ask ourselves if we can trust the world and wonder if it's safe. We can trust someone even in the future. Infants that experience fear, they start to develop mistrust and doubts. The most important thing for this development is the mother. This stage begins at birth and last through one year of age. The parent who is dependable with the basic needs for the infant. For an example, the mother feeds her baby in the morning time, next time the baby is hungry they will start to cry hoping the mother feed the baby again. The baby's trust will start to grow stronger when the mother does the same routine. If the mother fails the routine, the mistrust may come in for the baby. The infant must develop a loving relationship with the mother/caregiver through feeding, teething and comforting. Failure to resolve the conflicts can lead to sensory distortion, and withdrawal.

From My experience, I always had trust of my mother she always fed me and watch over me and my sibling especially when it came to playing with us.

Autonomy vs Shame and doubt

In our early childhood age 1 to 3 years old we seem to experience ourselves and discover our body. The questions we sometimes think is "Is it okay to be me?". When we discover ourselves we develop self confidence. If we don't we develop shame and self doubt. Both of the parents is the most important key to this role. For an example, When children learn to dress themselves, they often want to chose their own clothing even if it's mismatched or not the adult idea of clothes. Allowing their children to make their own choices and dress gives them a sense of independence and control over their own lives. If children are criticized, overly controlled or not given the opportunity to assert themselves, they begin to feel insufficient in the ability to survive and may then become overly dependent upon others and lack self esteem.

My experience of this label, I always had my chance to got to pick my own fits or holidays clothes. I realized as a kid I always chose princess clothes because my favorite color was pink.

Initiative vs Guilt

In preschool (3-6 years old), kids take initiative, trying out new things and learn basic principles like how a basketball roll. We often ask "Is it okay for me to what I do?". Kids can follow their interest if they are encouraged enough. If someone says that they do is silly or not good they start to develop guilt. The most important event is independence and the relationship from family members. This can strength the kids purpose. For an example, a kid wants to take care of a dog they will feel responsible. If they fail to look after the dog of their responsibilities, they may feel guilty and feel unsure their ability to take care of the dog. Kids tend to be pushy and controlling when they don't get their way. These behaviors are part of the kids social interactions. Parents control this behavior by responding harshly creating guilt in the child to not do it again.

Of my experience of this label I always thought I could have my way in school and I was very bratty. It was recess and I wanted the swings but a girl was on it and I got really angry and yelled at the girl. My mom told me it's bad for what I did and I had to say sorry. I felted guilty for yelling at the girl.

Industry vs Inferiority

In age of 5-12 kids realize that they are different from others. They would want to show that they can do things right. They tend to ask themselves " How can I be good?". If they receive recognition from teachers or peers they become industrious which means hard working. If the kids get too much negative comments, they will start to lose motivation. Schools and neighbors influence the kids the most. The kids must learn to deal with new skills and develop a sense of achievement and accomplishment. Failure can create sense of inferiority, failure and incompetence. For an example, if the kid raise their hand in class and they answered correctly, they will feel industrious. If the kid tries to answer a question but get the answer wrong, they will feel inferior. Kids become more competent in all areas from social interactions to academic skills.

My experience for this label I remember at my class we were doing a game for each team, I had got an answer right the team cheered for me and said "good job" it raised my confidence that I'm smart.

Teens (12-18), teens learn they have different social roles. They are friends, students and citizens. Many experience an identity crisis. If the parents now allow the teen to go out and explore, they can find identity. If the parents push the teen to conform to their views, they face role confusion. Most likely teen learn this by peers or role models. Teens may try put different roles, like trying to fit in social groups or changing your wardrobe. They should be able to fine a stable sense of self now. Sometimes they might even try drugs or sex. They be unsure of who they are and where to fit. They conform to the expectation of their peers or role model in order to fit in. For an example, a teenager doesn't know what to do life, they didn't want to accept the parents suggestions of becoming a doctor. They don't have much interest in the doctor theme. After trying many things, they decided to become a musician. Since, their interest is being a musician they enrolled a music teacher. When teens get a clear on who they are and they've achieved identity formation. When they experience identity diffusion they seem lost in life with no purpose whatsoever. They sometimes can be blindly become what they're told to becoming as when they never even thought of the situations. When they don't have enough motivation they tend to not look for the identity they fit in. They will sometimes lead to a negative lifestyle.
