Our first stone is the "castle". We made our goal hats, put them on our heads, and showed the movement of the goal in the shots of our class.  Then we found the rook in the chess pieces and moved it on the board.

We started a cartoon about chess together, and in the movie, we got to know the rook and learned a song about this piece.

Castles are in the game! 

In order to reinforce the movement of the white and black castles, I designed a game in which the castles could catch the children.
Goals can only move forward and backward on the line. The child touched by the goal is out of the game. At the end of the game, the castles count the players they have captured, and whichever color castle has the most players is deemed to have won the group of that color castle :)

Studying the Rook in Chess

The children completed tasks after being introduced to the rook.

The Rook is the second most powerful piece on the chessboard. The children imagined that the Rook was a great traveler.

He can move in any direction on the chessboard, but only in straight lines.

This week we got to know the Rook and its moves. We created a fairy tale about the Chess Kingdom and the Brave Rook saving the king from the fire dragon. We dressed up as chess pieces and acted out the story.

The rook chess piece reminded the children of the towers of great castles, so we decided to learn about this piece through modeling and construction. The children built castles and towers using various materials, including blocks of different shapes and materials, playdough, and paper.

With the rooks they made from playdough, we learned how the piece moves on the chessboard. We also made hats for the children representing this chess piece, and whenever they put the hat on, they had to behave like real rooks, mimicking the piece’s movement—straight forward, straight backward, straight left, and straight right. Through this activity, the children also learned about straight lines, both vertical and horizontal.

At this stage of the project, in the shared space in our kindergarten, we have started building two large castles—one in black and one in white—with a giant chessboard placed in between them.
