Starting at midnight that day, he said, citizens of the GDR were free to cross the country's borders. He wall came down partly because of a bureaucratic accident but it fell amid a wave of revolutions that left the Soviet-led communist bloc teetering on the brink of collapse and helped define a new world order.

The Cubans wanted communism, America didn't want that, but the USSR supported that. In February 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed an embargo on trade between the United States and Cuba.

Vietnam was involved with France, the United States, China, the Laos Soviet Union, Cambodia, South Korea, and other allies of the US and Vietnam.
