They explain that they will be able to travel, write, and experience just like everyone else. This video really drives home its point as it shows these children from all over the world speaking different languages speaking of their amazing abilities. They shows that this disability does not define their abilities as a human.

In this video I was informed that
- Down's Syndrome is the most common chromosomal abnormality.
- Downs Syndrome leads to severe intellectual disabilities and health problems. That can be treated through speech therapy, physical therapy, and special education.
-Most children with this problem are born to mothers under the age of 35, but older mothers have an increased risk of having a child with Down syndrome.
- This occurs when the sperm or the egg carry an extra chromosome. There are only supposed to to be 23 for each parent but on occasion an extra chromosome is present. It is still scientifically unknown why there is an extra chromosome present.
-Children with Down syndrome have difficulties in tasks involving many areas of the brain, including the prefrontal cortex; an area of the brain responsible for behavior, attention, decision making, emotion, and complex thought.
-The additional chromosome may cause a lot more than just neurological issues; these include heart disease, infertility, and vision and hearing disorders
- The stereotypical physical malformations associated with this condition is a short neck, small head, and flat face.

This video focuses on how the children with these disabilities learn and why they must learn in different ways than the average individuals. This video goes through the steps that teachers take to to teach these children.
-Individuals with Down syndrome have poor short-term memory and poor auditory memory which is remembering sounds that we hear verbally.
-just remembering information that's presented audit-orally working memory though involves combining information integrating and using information in

memory for problem solving and for understanding and so that is

particularly effortful for an individual.
-Phonics base approach and sight words. Want to learn words that have strong meaning to them
-Strengths in visual memory and recognition memory. Therefore they read better when they have a picture and the word together. They have a really hard time pulling back memories from the past but if given hints it helps them recall this memory.
-the child matches a word on a flash card then matches to a stationary grid.
- They start with a small number of words and really work with the child to learn these words.
-Allow these students to focus at the tasks at hand with no distractions as that can cause many issues for the child.

This is a story about a mother who has a child with Down syndrome. She goes over how this condition occurs. she goes through the story of when she had this child and how she originally felt grief when she first had this baby. She states 50% of babies with down syndrome have heart defects but her daughter did not. She worried about the stigma around children who face this condition. She felt grief and pain when she first had this child which gave her a lot of strength. It took her awhile to realize that she is still her daughter. She says "Down Syndrome does not define my daughter." They hold their daughter to high expectations despite this condition. She says this daughter is a gift and her first days were so silly and she regrets those feelings. She talks about how her older child loved Nela so much and that is what taught her to love her child endlessly.

They can read the emotions of people very well. This is not seen as an illness it is just a disability. They do not want to be degraded for this, they are very much like everyone else. They too have hopes, feelings, dreams, thoughts and interests. They are excellent communicators even though they may have trouble with their speech. They too can work a job. Today most people live to their 50's or 60's.

Reflection on Down's Syndrome

Learning about Down's Syndrome was eye-opening to someone who has never really experienced someone with this condition. I learned a lot about how these children learn and how difficult it is for their working memory. But many teacher and individuals will work hard with them so they can have a future, job, and education like everyone else. I got a chance to see an insight into how these families function and honestly it is not much different from an everyday family. I learned these kids are down to earth and care emotionally about the people in their lives, this condition causes late developmental milestones, increased health issues, trouble with speech and down syndrome is one of the most common chromosomal abnormalities in the human race. This fact I found very shocking because I have never had a class with anyone who faces this condition, but I believe these children should be in the classroom and get the same chances of education and socialization that everyone else gets. The most powerful video I came across was the “do not limit me” video. This video showed a girl who has achieved amazing things in her lifetime and wants to continue to produce amazing accomplishments. She speaks out about ways in school she wants to be included. She does not want to be degraded, separated or mimicked. She wants a chance like all other students. This was one of the many videos I watched that highlighted the stigma around Down's Syndrome. The stigma breaks my heart that people's differences cause others to have such altered perceptions. The parent's initial reactions when they hear they are having a baby with Down's syndrome is incredibly heartbreaking. So many people follow the stigma that surrounds this condition that they do not want their children once they find out they have Down's syndrome. Once these parents realize all the amazing things, these children bring they immediately regret their initial feeling. I believe it is critical to erase this stigma around this condition, so these children get amazing opportunities too.
