At first the old coach wouldn't take it. That is when the white players started to come up and telling him that they were going to boycott the team for him and risk their rides to college. That is when he decided to take the job and said that is it only for his players that he is doing it. At first the team is biased to their race but after the physical and mental practices and camps they start to become one. They talk about how the leader isn't leading the team because of his racist attitude and prejudice. Williams changed quickly. At the beginning of the school year the school was full of racial tensions. Students didn't interact with anyone outside of their race. Teachers favored the white students. With the new head football coach being a black man he came into the school and broke down the culture barriers. He created a team that was a family. By doing this he also help create a school that became a family without racial tensions. The lessons that he taught to the football team were recreated in their own life. With the football team becoming a family and breaking down racial barriers the rest of the school and community started to do the same. At the start of the movie people push back and try to find ways to make the new black students feel unwanted and unsafe at the school. A new head coach is hired and he is black.
