Christmas has lost its meaning
Christmas is the most important holiday in Christianity and consists of the celebration of the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. However, not only the religious celebrate this reason, since all over the world, people come together with their loved ones to celebrate this date. But has Christmas lost this meaning? First and foremost, the Christmas tradition (in Mexico) is to get together with your friends or family to sing Christmas carols, ask for a 'posada', break 'piñatas', have a special dinner, put the baby Jesus in the nativity scene and enjoy that moment together. However, there are people who forget the true meaning of this celebration and prefer to celebrate in another way. for example, many prefer to go out with their friends to clubs or bars to converse, drink alcoholic beverages and dance. In my opinion, everyone is free to choose how to celebrate this date, although I believe that we should not let the true meaning of the Christmas celebration be lost, since I consider that it is beautiful that this tradition passes from generation to generation.

María Fernanda Pérez Rodríguez

4 Write an article giving your opinion on one of the following subjects.

• Christmas has lost its meaning

• Traditions should be kept alive

• Marriage is an outdated institution

In Tabasco, traditions are celebrated with great care since they are very important and are always expected with excitement since many people feel that happiness of being with their families celebrating or friends, although many families may feel a sense of disconnection since the fast changes in society have greatly affected the ways in which we celebrate our cultural traditions and our pride. Most traditions involve a sense of family togetherness and support through dinners, religious activities, rites of passage, and much more. In my opinion, traditions should be kept alive because it is something that will always remind us of where we are from, our culture or something in particular, likewise it is very important that they are kept alive as it represents us and makes us distinguish from other countries. I also believe that traditions should not only be stabilized alive for these reasons but also because in this way it helps us to maintain our language. Each of the traditions have a valuable meaning that represents them, without traditions our culture would be dead, since what represents us as Tabasco is our way of language and most importantly our culture and its traditions.

Mariana Álvarez Félix
