The acidic concentrate in the ocean can negatively impact ocean life. Fossil fuels also impact the oxygen level in the atmosphere for us humans. 
In one lab we used water with vinegar, (vinegar representing acidic levels) and chalk, (representing coral reefs and living organisms).
