Reflection on My Practicum

My practicum was a great learning experience where I got to apply what I learned in class to real-life teaching. I improved my skills in planning lessons, managing the classroom, and keeping students engaged. It helped me become more confident and better at meeting the needs of different students.

I especially enjoyed seeing how creative and fun activities helped students learn and participate more. I faced challenges like managing time and helping students with different abilities, but these taught me how to adapt and grow.

Overall, the practicum strengthened my love for teaching and showed me how important it is to create a positive and supportive environment where students can do their best.

Fun Fact: Bring Stories to Life in Literature Lessons! 💡

Hello everyone,

Something I think we can use in our classrooms to enhance storytelling is incorporating storytelling techniques when teaching literature. Did you know that studies show students are 22% more likely to remember key details and themes when teachers narrate a story with expressive tone and gestures? It’s a simple yet powerful way to boost comprehension and engagement.

Here are a few ideas to try:

Re-enact a scene or have students rewrite a story from a different character’s perspective to deepen their understanding.

Use props or visuals, like animated story videos, and encourage students to read along to bring the narrative to life.

Let’s channel our inner storytellers and make literature lessons unforgettable.

Hey everyone, I have found that one tool we can use to help our students better understand characters, their personalities and relevance to the text is a character sheet. The character sheet is an instructional material designed to help students analyze and understand characters in literature by examining their traits, motivations, relationships, and development. It includes sections for basic information (like the character’s name, role, and physical description), personality traits supported by textual evidence, motivations and goals, key relationships, character development, symbolism, and their overall impact on the plot. Additionally, it incorporates a creative component where students can create a tagline or playlist for their character to foster engagement. This sheet can be used in various ways, such as individual character analysis, group discussions, creative writing assignments, or role-playing activities. By using this tool, students will develop critical thinking and gain a deeper appreciation for the characters and the themes they represent in the text. I have attached a template to help you better understand the structure.

My Experience from Practicum

Considering this was a school my uncle use to attend, I was excited to go and it was not a disappointment. The students are extremely smart and attentive. They listen and participate as best as they can. The environment is also very clean. St. Jago has a little shop inside that sells milk, ginger and peppermint tea. I find this very nice and thoughtful.

I've realised that the students are most preferably hands on learners. If they're not given a task to do while the session is going on to give them a better understanding of what is being discussed, they won't be able to follow along.

Overall, the experience was amazing.
