The medical application of biotechnology includes techniques such as gene therapy and recombinant DNA technology. You can use biopharmaceutical drugs to fight against diseases. In gene therapy, normal genes are put in DNA to replace the defective/mutated gene. With pharmacogenomics, you can learn someone's genetic information by analyzing the body's response to certain drugs. You can use genetic testing to discover hereditary diseases in an individual. We can also use stem cells to help a damaged area of a body. A pro to medical biotechnology is that it lowers the rates of infectious diseases. Another good thing about it is that it can help us cure diseases that are now thought incurable. We can also use bioprocessing to create things like insulin, which is necessary for diabetics. The most important pro about medical biotechnology is that overall, it helps save lives. Now, moving on to the cons of medical biotechnology, there is the hot topic about ethical issues. Many people are questioning whether or not it's "right" to use this technology on humans. Biotechnology is also expensive for medical use to not only produce the necessary products, but to also research it beforehand.

Agricultural biotechnology is genetically modifying living organism(s). Many farmers need this to help meet their consumers need. Since the 1990's, there are many different genetically modified crops that farmers can use. Some pros of biotechnology in agriculture is that there is improved nutritional quality in crops, the reduced need for pesticides, and further options for growth. However, some cons are that there is unexpected cross pollination, it's hard on the soil, and the cost of it.
Applications of Biotechnology in Food Processing

The definition of food processing is when easily perishable raw materials are turned into edible (and portable) foods/beverages. Biotechnology in the food processing industry is important because it helps with many things such as safety, fermentation, quality, and many more things. A pro of having genetically modified food is that normally, one would have to get the produce quickly to the market and it continues to ripen even after it's picked, while genetically modified produce stops ripening when it is picked, so it lasts longer. Another good thing is that the produce is more nutritious and rich in certain vitamins. A con is that scientists don't know what GMOs will do to the human body in the long term because GMOs haven't been around for that long. Bugs have become resistant to BT which is the insecticide that genetically modified plants have. This can get in the way of the food because it could be partially eaten when it is packaged to be sent to grocery stores.

Environmental biotechnology is scientific engineering to prevent environmental pollution. It can help with liquid pollutants, solid pollutants, and gaseous wastes. One of the many pros is that this helps reduce waste. Like I said before, it helps prevent many types of environmental pollution, which is definitely a pro. It also helps us ensure that species are not at the risk of extinction. Crops need fewer pesticides which also reduces environmental pollution. A con is that scientist don't fully understand what affects biotechnology applications in the environmental field will have in the long run. This is a video for the applications of biotechnology in environmental: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcM2G26UUfA

To quote https://industry.gov.au, industrial biotechnology is " a set of practices that use living cells (such as bacteria, yeast, algae) or component of cells like enzymes, to generate industrial products and processes". One of the pros of this is that it can be used to create new products, such as biodegradeable plastics. It can reduce the amount of harsh chemicals used in industries. A con of this is that there is still some controversy going on about biotechnology. Some people don't agree with biotechnology at all. This is a video about industrial applications of biotechnology: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDlkpbKkkAk
