This stage occurs from birth to infancy (1 year). It shows how an infant trusts others based on the dependability of others. At this stage, the strongest relationship is the mother because she feeds the baby and is present all day, every day. At this age, we can see babies attached to their parents and can cry and throw a tantrum when others get near or pick them up. There is both negative and positive outcome. Positives can occur when feeding, sleeping, and quality time occur. Adverse/Negative outcomes develop due to mistrust of other people, objects, and even themselves.

This is the second stage, it happens from 18 months - 3 years(toddlers). Children learn self-control or develop shame.
Autonomy: Toddlers start becoming more independent and want to do things on their own. One will notice that they start saying "no" at this age. They become more confident in everything they do.
Shame & Doubt: Overprotective parents mainly cause this. Toddlers want to do it themselves but one takes away their independence and causes them to doubt their abilities.

Children will gain self-confidence and a purpose.
Guilt: When adults criticize a child's play or questions, they can discourage them and make them feel like they failed.
