We have two types of Debt which accounts for economic growth. Residential mortgage debt includes mortgages with banks or large non-bank lenders. Non-mortgage debt includes all other types of consumer debt such as credit cards, lines of credit and personal loans.
When consumer spending grows steadily upwards, it's usually an indication of an healthy economy. It's important that consumers to keep spending as any slowdown in consumer spending will be felt throughout the economy and could possibly lead to higher unemployment rater.

Cash, Debit and Credit. As cash will always be a form of payment, it is the lowest form of payment. Debit cards and mobile devices make up just over a quarter of payment methods. Just under one half of all purchases made in today market are made by means of Credit and these levels are constantly rising.

For every dollar we as an Canadian make we owe one dollar sixty eight cents? Many Canadian home owners have borrowed into their equity on their homes for simple things such as making improvements or taking a trip and if they are unable to pay back this credit they may be forced to sell and end up having to pay back much more than what the property is worth. This is very much dependent on the market housing market at the time. If the market becomes flooded due to economic fall, these properties will fall along with it in value causing an even harder hit on our economic credit values.

Our credit now more than ever has become paramount in day to day spending to maintaining our economic growth and stability within our country and around the world. Without it the fragile structure would create a downfall of everything we have including the largest part, our homes.
It is that simple.
When our credit drives our market spending and dictates what we can spend, we spend it! If we don't have credit we find it or create it for those which want it and in return charge more for it allowing more purchases. This alone creates more demand on supplies be it food to construction needs.
Lets just say we stopped spending and did not need that credit. Interest rates go up as lose prevention is now implemented and we are charged more on what we owe and now the costs go up on everything and so on.
I had no idea how large the credit machine really is and how large that machine was on pumping credit. How vulnerable we are to its importance of consumer credit to our economy.

What really surprised me was the fact of how much credit was being used for and how it has taken over in method of payment.

I just recently had to book hotel rooms for a function and even though I was paying in full at the time by cash, I was required to provide a credit card. The problem was that I had received a new one in the mail and because I do not use my credit much (I rather pay by debit) it was on my desk at home.

I had to go back and activate the card and proceed with the bookings and afterwards pay the costs by debit. This says without a credit card you are basically out of business.

On this same note, you are required a credit card for a parking lot now as the ticket machines ONLY use credit cards for payment.

When I was doing research on this I fell across this video reflecting back to 1961 and how the cost have changed since then. The amount of taxes to today’s amount was shocking as to everyday household spending. It makes me wonder why it has changed so much.

In all, it all seems to dwell around the housing market as it is the largest price tag held over a much longer period of time. The fragility of the market and our spending habits and or allowances could falter the whole system if we were to just stay at home and penny pinch.
