  • It was interesting that I was observing a teacher that I had in middle school 
  • "Every time I spell, it hurts" - student 
  • "My chrome book is like at 1%" -student 
  • "Too many books exist" - student 
  • The two class period for ELA was not something that was done when I went to the middle school, so it was an adjustment 
  • I answered the school phone 
  • A couple students came up to me and asked my name 
  • Teacher has a owl that has been taxidermied 
  • Student informed me that her brother also attends Butler 
  • "What quiz?"- student 
  • "You would like water fire" - student 
  • "This is a dictatorship" - student 
  • Teachers response: " I'm glad you know" 
  • "Viva la revolution"- student 
  • "One Man Band is a metaphor for politics" - student 
  • "Is this the joke here, how many Ravenclaw's does it take to screw in a lightbulb" - student 
  • " I am not a DJ, we are watching what I have chosen" - teacher

  • The staff in the office are very nice  
  • I was greeted by the teacher with a hug 
  • Students carry their binders to class, then retreive backpacks after school 
  • Students use their lockers 
  • A student helped me find the teachers class; although I did know where it was 
  • Students greeted me the second morning 
  • Kids were everywhere in the hallway before school 
  • Students were excited to the teacher
  • Staff within the classroom are very helpful 
  • Teacher greats the students every class period as well as students in the hallway 
  • Students were excited to watch Pixar Shorts 
  • Students are not allowed backpacks in the classroom 
  • Students are not allowed their cell phones in the classroom

  • Some students were engaged in the stations, others were not 
  • Some students read quietly during seminar  
  • Teacher helped a student through their quiz 
  • Student asked teacher if they could retake a quiz 
  • Teacher asked student a question to try and understand their method of thinking 
  • Groups of students work together to  determine correct answer 
  • Students await further instructions from teacher 
  • Students use Charades to practice vocabulary with one another 
  • Some students would talk to each other during the Pixar Shorts 
  • Students quietly work on items or tasks for the remainder of the hour, some work together others work individually

  • Bellwork was used to start off the class period  
  • The teacher loves Harry Potter, so her room is Harry Potter themed and is incorporated into the classroom teaching methods 
  • Varied seating types throughout the classroom 
  • Bookshelves are full of literature 
  • Artwork and posters that are related to literature are on the walls 
  • Students wrote on the chalkboard
  • The white board, chalkboard and  powerpoint were all used for giving instructions 
  • Instructions were also given verbally 
  • ELA is two classes instead of one class period in order to give students all information that needs to be taught throughout the year 
  • Seminar is the last 20 minutes of the day
  • Spelling Contest 
  • Classroom points aligned with Harry Potter Houses 
  • Kahoot is used 
  • Teacher used websites to collect data and further benefit  the students 
  • Used Pixar Shorts to review plot
