1. Dreary=trøstløs, toils=slid/hårde arbejde.

The adjectives dreary tells us that this has
taken a long time, and that it has been tough. Just that the setting is dark
and sad, November is often considered dark and sad.

 2.
He thinks that the creature
brought to life but the contrast with his watery eyes are scary. He didn’t like
a normal person would like. – he is different. He is scared for what he have
done.

3.
He is filled with
disgust and horror because he knows that making the dead become living again is
wrong. He is so scared of what he have done so he actually runs away.

1. Comment on the opening phrase: “It was on a
dreary night of November that I beheld the accomplishment of my toils.”

It sets
a very dramatic atmosphere. It tells us a little of his background and how he
has worked hard for this moment. The choice of words really sets the tone as
well and defines genre.

2. How does Victor Frankenstein respond to the
actual creation of life? What surprises him about the way the creature he
has brought to life looks?
He starts being very excited
about his accomplishment, but soon afterwards he sees what monster he has made.
Perhaps he has been so deep into his work that he didn't think of the
consequence his actions would bring and what creature he was making.

3. What does Victor's response tell us about
Victor?
Perhaps he has been so deep
into his work that he didn't think of the consequence his actions would bring
and what creature he was making. It shows us that he is capable of seeing the
difficulties he has created and shows his human nature.

4. What does Victor dream? What might the dream
reveal about Victor’s life?
He kisses his mother and just
afterwards grave worms crawl out from here. I think he realizes that you
shouldn't awaken the dead. The dead doesn't belong in the world of the living
and awakening the dead was wrong.

5. What does the creature do? How does Victor
respond?
The monster reaches in front
of him and Victor flees. Victor goes to sleep and when he wakes up the monster
is in his room. The monster pulls the
curtains to the side. Victor flees again.

6. Whom does Victor meet arriving in a coach the
next morning? How does Victor respond?
He meets an old friend Henry
Clerval, and is very relieved. The

He is speechlessly horrified, he continues to be so
throughout the story

Oh! no mortal
could support the horror of that countenance. A mummy again endued with
animation could not be so hideous as that wretch. I had gazed on him while
unfinished; he was ugly then; but when those muscles and joints were rendered
capable of motion, it became a thing such as even Dante could not have
conceived.

1. He is very calm and objective in describing the situation in comparison to what he actually feels. It's almost like a scientific report.

2. To his own surprise he is horrified at the sight of his own creation. Even though it has beautiful elements these elements only add up to the overall ugliness of the monster since the beauty is not complete.

3. He runs away in horror of what he has created.

4. He dreams that he meets his beloved, but she transforms into something like a corpse, and he feels like he's holding the corpse of his deceased mother. Death has a big presence in his life. The dream tells us that his mother apparently is dead. Things of beauty die and become ugly and in a sense unrecognizable, so in an attempt to reverse this process he wishes to take something dead and bring it back to life and make it beautiful, but he fails. When he fails he is reminded of his inner sorrow.

5. The creature looks at Victor and opens its jaws. It makes some strange sounds and seems to grin, and then Victor runs away.

6. He sees Henry Clerval and feels great joy.
