I learned about and combated covert racism at an early age. Due to being undervalued and treated differently, I disengaged. I’ve embraced my differences and hold myself accountable. Throughout my life experience, I’ve learn how to advocate for myself and teach my students how to do that for themselves

Before responding, I would provide more breaks in the classroom to try to pull Brian back into the space. If he is tired, sometimes having a short walk or drinking some water can help him to kind of re-energize. If the trend continues, I would reach out to Brian 1:1 and just talk to him. I would try to understand how he feels that he could be best supported in the classroom. I would try to provide time management resources as well, seeing if there are ways to decrease Brian's take-home work from our class so he is able to rest while at home instead of worrying about homework.
