My dad tells me stories about Indian Gods and spirits and it is related to the picture on page 9 because the girl’s dad is supposedly telling stories to the girl.

The aspect of the whole book reminds me of the death of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter racism protest in the U.S.A

T-T-W: This book really helped me realize that, *unacceptably* some people think of the indigenous Australians as lesser unimportant beings. WE are the lesser beings. And even more so to the people who think who believe we are more important or deserve better treatment. We deep down all know that we are living in a unfair, and unethical world. In day break the main character lives with her nan. This reminds me when one of my mum’s friends came to live in are house for about half a year.

Text to text: There was one thing in particular I found in both the Black Lives Matter book and the day break book. Both of them have a deep connection to people wanting better freedoms and rights. It was especially evident in the Black Lives Matter book. It was also evident in the day break book. I understand why these people are not happy about the amount of respect they are given. 

Text to world: All over the world, millions of people sacrifice so much to go to and fight in the war. Some people went to help out in ways such as taking care of injured soldiers, and others went went with the sole purpose to fight and protect their country. This reminds me of my great -  great nan. She disguised herself as a boy just so she could go and fight in the war! This was in World War One.

This book reminds me of when I was little. One day at recess, I was walking on the playground. And that is when I accidentally heard a conversation between two little girls, “So how are you going to spend the Australian Day? ”the first one said. “I donna. But my mom says that I can invite 3 girls to have a sleepover party. And you are my first guest.”the other one said. An Australian Day sleepover? That sounds so cool! At the moment, I really, really, really want to have a sleepover party as well! So when it is home time, I ran towards my mom and said in a excited voice, “Mommy, can I have a sleepover party for the Australian Day?” But my mom said, “I’m sorry sweet heart, but we have our own festival to celebrate.”

This book “Day Break” is very similar to the book “When we say Black Lives Matter”. First of all, they are both about that the Indigenous Australians and the white Australians. Secondly, the authors of the two books both used very, very strong sentences to persuade us. But, they also have differences. For example, these books have a different setting and their audiences are not at the same age group. (When we say Black Lives Matter: 10 and above. Day Break: 6 and above.)

This book also reminds me of people around me. Many of them are white Australians. They talked and celebrated Australian Days a lot. I have also seen some Indigenous Australians around me, they celebrated their own festivals a lot and do not celebrate Australian Day. This reminds me of how we used to learn about the Indigenous Australians and how the Europeans took there children and stole there land.

This reminds me of this diary in grade 3 that the teacher read to the class and it was about how an Indigenous Australians children got stolen from him and when the Europeans came to there land they didn’t know if they where dangerous or not. Many people in the indigenous culture died because of them.

They have been at the land for thousands of generations and we just hop along and say that it’s ours now. Shoo! It is their land and we need to treat them with basic respect. I know that we need to treat them like our fellow mates. I know that Europeans had terrorised them and they didn’t even do anything to us.

And in this book the nana got separated from her family. Many Indeginous Australians had gotten separated from their family and to all the Indeginous Australians out there still probably know and have a scar from the horrors of the lost generation.

T-T-S- Day break reminds me of my life because when me and my family went to Tasmania in the holidays we had to wake up at about 5:30 in the morning. In day break the main character, her Dad and her Nan all woke up early to take her nan back to country. 

T-T-T- Day break reminds me of commonwealth because in commonwealth the author is fighting for Aboriginal rights. In day break the main characters Dad doesn’t want to celebrate Australia Day because it is the day when the Aboriginal land that they had been living on for tens of thousands of years was taken away. So day break and commonwealth are both similar because they are both telling you that Australia is actually the Aboriginal peoples land but it was stolen from them. 

T-T-W- Day break reminds me that in the past and it still happens now is that people are being treated unfairly for being different even though everyone is different in some ways. This should be something that people should think is cool not make people feel bad about it. 

TTT - this reminds me of the text common wealth because in common wealth, the character wants to change the lyrics of the national anthem because they want people to know they are one of the oldest cultures in the world. This reminds me of common wealth because in both texts they both try and let people know that it is important.

This book reminds me of the book common wealth as they were both about aboriginals. Something day break had that commonwealth didn’t have was drawings or pictures of the aboriginals. Both of the books wanted the aboriginals to have there land back . Day break and commonwealth both had very different was of saying what the aboriginals wanted.

This text reminds me of the incursion for history a couple years ago. A difference between my life and the book is that I am not aboriginal. This reminds  the show the whole year level watched that compared that compared rich white people to convicts to aboriginals. It also reminds me that they fought for there position today and I didn’t.

This reminds me of the many different indigenous cultures over the world. It also reminds me of the hundreds of lost aboriginal territories. It reminds me that the kiwis were treated better. It also makes me wonder where the boats are today.

Day Break reminds me of when I was back in year three. We were learning about who lived in Australia before the British invaded. We also learnt about how they survived and how they had uses for everything. This is similar to the text because the main character in Day Break was aboriginal and we were learning about Aboriginals in history. Differently, our history class was focused on a more positive note rather then Day Break, which was focused on a more negative one. I hope the world can strait to recognise who lived in Australia first.

Day Break reminds me of all the other books I have read. They are all about people, who are passionate about changing something. Most of the are about Justice for black people (judged on what I’ve read so far) apart from Stand Up! Speak Up!, which is about taking action on global warming. They are different though because because Day Break is focused on Aboriginals while When We Say Black Lives Matter is more about all the Black people. I hope the world has finally started to recognise who was here first.

The text reminds me of when Captain Cook first came to Australia and claimed it was  rightfully his (not!), and nobody lived there. After some exploring, he found that people lived on Australia. It was too late for him though, so he just totally ignored them. After a while, he realised that he couldn’t ignore them anymore so he decided to get rid of them. Even though it seems obvious, I reckon that people should never do that.

This book reminds me that British didn’t discover Australia, indigenous did. And also how badly they were treated by the British visitors that claim this as their land/ discovery. Also in real life there are a lot of real indigenous people that protest and fight for their land. When the British came they took away children, like shown in the book, and tortured, sometimes killed the indigenous owners of the land. Although in schools they don’t tell kids that British discoverers claimed this land, they tell them the truth.

I obliviously have never been kidnapped. But I have been treated unfair by friends  even if it was a long time ago. Again, it wasn’t severe like this. I have never been taught that British are in charge of Australia because they obviously aren’t. I haven’t gone through something bad from this and I have no indigenous people in my family.

Text to text: This text reminds me of when I went on a school excursion to an original Indigenous area. We had a tour and people told us about what happened and how indigenous Australians felt. This is similar to how in the book the girls friend thinks Australia Day is a celebration but to Indigenous Australians it is not a celebration. This day is a memory of loss and fear. When the British invaded they took away lives and families. In this incursion we learnt how indigenous people felt and in this story we understand that Australia Day is not a celebration to some!

Text to text: This text makes me think of rabbits. In both stories they explain how Indigenous people felt when they saw these unknown ships approach. The British thought that they could just take over and that they were in charge. Indigenous Australians put up a fight but that was no match for guns and horses. When the British invaded no words could describe the fear and worries between the group.

Text to world: This makes me feel upset when I think of original owners of the land being treated horribly. Being in a different culture is nothing to be treated differently about. Not just in Australia but other colonies that were invaded would feel the same. They would feel loss and anger because someone or some country took something away that no words can describe. Imagine seeing you children being taken away by strangers and never seeing you kids again. How would that make you feel. I think we should celebrate as a nation how we have not forgotten what Indigenous Australians went through. We should also remember that a lot of people died to the British, we should remember those fighters and respect that to some people/groups the 26th of January is a day of anger and loss.

T-T-S. This book made me feel frustrated that white people claimed this land over indigenous people, but... it made me think me again. If they didn’t come, we wouldn’t have been here. So is it a good thing or a bad thing?

I can relate this book to the day the aboriginal flag was missing as they both talk about aboriginal topics I can also relate this to the book commonwealth as this book (daybreak) and commonwealth both talk about the stolen generation and the fact that aboriginals we’re at Australia first.
