Paraguay has two national languages: Spanish and Guarani. Guarani is the indigenous language of the Americas, hence why it is spoken more than Spanish.

Paraguay and the U.S. are different from another because in the U.S. there is not an official language for the country, but English is the most commonly used. Paraguay uses indigenous languages while the U.S. doesn't have a high percentage of indigenous languages nor speakers. Both have a lot of language diversity in their country because of certain factors (ex: immigration)

Spanish is spoken by about 87 percent of the population and Guarani is spoken by more that 90 percent.

In Paraguay, staple foods like cassava, sopa Paraguaya, chipa, tortillas, and empanadas are very important to their culture. Vegetables and fruits such as tomatoes, carrots, squash, and watermelon are also crucial to the Paraguayan diet. Red meat, like beef, is a major part of adult diets and so is chicken and pork.

Paraguay has a more fresh and healthier lifestyle than the average American. In America, our diet is full of pre-packaged foods, fried foods, fast food, and processed meats. They have healthier options in Paraguay, but in America we benefit from our diversity by having Chinese, Italian, Jamaican, and Spanish food.

Paraguay is one of the most malnourished countries in Latin America. An UNICEF report states, 50 percent of the nutritional problems happen in households in the rural parts of the country.

At the age of 15, Paraguayan girls are expected to have a party to celebrate becoming a woman (senorita). Parents usually approve of marriage partners for their children and a civil wedding occurs and sometimes a church wedding. Divorce was recently legalized in 1991 and occasionally occurs.

In Paraguay, several generations will live in one home or on a farm from that one marriage. A lot of the time it is an extended family since they believe that the children take care of their parents. In America, children typically put their parents in retirement homes after they reach a certain age. In both countries, fathers are seen as head of the family and mothers care for the home.

A report from UNICEF finds that in 2017, 18 percent of the population was married by 18.
