B.E.E.F: by

B.E.E.F. is an acronym used to represent the skill cues used in the basketball jump shot. The "B" stands for balance which focuses on maintaining a shoulder-width athletic stance. "E" stands for eyes on the target. The second "E" stands for elbow which means keep the elbow up. And finally, "F" stands for follow-through which means we are flicking the wrist through the shot and ending with a "curled" hand. The B.E.E.F. acronym is a very popular way of teaching the fundamental skills involved with shooting a basketball and can be used at almost any age level.

Steve Kerr talks about Shooting The Basketball.

Text: This is a comprehensive article that looks at the basic aspects of shooting a basketball correctly. This article even describes the acronym of "B.E.E.F" which will be used as skill cues as I teach this lesson. It is important that students get an idea of what they will be doing through this article. (2)
Access: https://www.sportsrec.com/7380272/what-does-beef-stand-for-in-basketball
Strategy: Popcorn Reading
The way I would use Popcorn Reading for this article would be by having one student start reading and then after a couple of sentences or after the section I would have them call on another student of their choice. This will also allow us as a class to comprehend each section and then be able to talk over each section of the article so that everyone gets a good grasp of the article. (2) (4)
Evaluation of Text: The way I evaluated this text was by putting it through a readability checker online. After putting this article through the result was that the reading difficulty is Standard, the grade level is 8th & 9th Grade, and the age range is 13-15 years old. After evaluating this text I believe it is a great fit to use, especially because the formatting of the article allows for easy popcorn reading. (11)
Diversity: This article touches on diversity because it talks about Steve Kerr's life and the challenges he faced moving to America from Lebanon. It also goes on to explain the skills of B.E.E.F from the perspective of Steve Kerr which can be used by anyone of any age. (1) (3)

Functionality: The way that this article will help me with my curriculum goals is by having students get an understanding of the cues I want them to know. By seeing and reading from a credible source like Steve Kerr, students will be able to get trustworthy information that they can directly apply to what they will be doing in class. (2)

Rick Carlisle of the Dallas Mavericks talks Proper Shooting Form:

Text: This text is a comprehensive video of the Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle explaining and demonstrating the steps to the acronym "B.E.E.F". This will help students visualize each of the cues for the acronym "B.E.E.F". After watching this video students will be able to know each cue off the top of their heads, they then can apply these cues to game-like situations in class.
Access: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpjsZAOkq1s&ab_channel=Jr.NBA
Strategy: Question/Answer.
The way I would use this strategy is by having students ask questions throughout and after the video, and answer them. I would also ask students questions of understanding after the video, such as "What does the second E in B.E.E.F stand for and why is it important?" (2)
Diversity: This video demonstrates this skill with multiple different students of different ages and genders doing the movements. Having multiple types of people doing the tasks is important for my students when watching because it will help them relate to the video. Seeing someone who looks like you can have a great effect on the way they see themselves being able to do it. (1) (4)
Functionality: This video will help me with my lesson and the curriculum goals because students will have a much better grasp of the cues for B.E.E.F. when going to do it themselves. I know many students are visual learners, so this will also be more effective than the article for those students. (2)
Evaluation of text: I evaluated this text by doing a "CRAAP" test. This video has an acceptable publication date for the info being conveyed. It is relevant to the topic, of proper shooting form, the source of the video is a credible and reliable source, and the purpose of this text has hindrance to the focus of my lesson.

Stephen Curry Buzzer Beater.

Text: This text is a video showing Stephan Curry (arguably the best 3-point shooter ever) shooting a buzzer-beater to win a game using the B.E.E.F form. I picked this video because it shows the skills we will be learning in class in real-time. It can be hard for students to visualize how things may look in a real game setting, but having them see someone they look up to doing the same thing will help provide purpose to learning the skills as well.
Access: https://youtu.be/m3rpUCsQAbo?si=Hocf5BRyJ-IMlKaZ
Strategy: Question/Answer
I would use this strategy by having students ask questions about the video and the cues demonstrated in the video. I believe this would work well because students will watch this video and be able to see how these skills are used in a real-life scenario. They can question different aspects of the video which I will then answer. (2) (4)
Diversity: This video shows students a very talented professional doing the skills they will be learning. No matter what walk of life you are from, everyone can learn from Stephen Curry when it comes to basketball. It is applicable to all students of all backgrounds, and experiences. (1)
Functionality: Using this video is a great way for students to see what they will have to do. Implementing this into my lesson shows students the best possible example of a credible source doing what they will do. It is also a fun/exciting video that I imagine most students would enjoy watching.
Evaluation of Text: I evaluated this text by using a "CRAAP" test. This text passed the test because the publish date is acceptable, the information is relevant, the author has expert/professional credentials, the info used is not necessarily researched but it shows evidence to support the skills we are learning, and there is no bias or hindrance to my topic or project's focus.

B.E.E.F Diagram:

Text: This text is a diagram showing the progression of B.E.E.F. I would print this out and give each student a copy so that they can look back at it when they need to. This will help students grasp these cues, and also remember them while in a task. (4)
Access: https://quizlet.com/556039108/basketball-vocabulary-flash-cards/
Strategy: Modeling.
I would use the strategy of modeling because having students see me do it with proper form and technique and then see the steps on their diagram will help them understand the cues and skills. This will give students a visual and verbal example for them to see. (2) (4)
Functionality: Implementing this Diagram in my lesson will help me reach my curriculum goals by providing students with a tool that they can refer back on when they need to. Giving students this text can help students be able to answer their own questions as they come up, and just serve as a great reminder for them as they go throughout the lesson. (2)
Diversity: This text can be used by students of any experience level or background. This is important because my classes will consist of students with different experiences and skill levels, if I can have students be able to answer some questions by themselves using this diagram I will be able to direct my attention to the students who aren't able to find the answer using the text. (1)
Evaluation of Text: I evaluated this text by using a "CRAAP" test in which this text passed. This text passed the test because the publish date is acceptable, the information is relevant because it addresses the B.E.E.F acronym, the author has expert credentials because this diagram is from a Quizlet made by a teacher, the info used is definitely researched in depth, and there is no bias or hindrance to my topic or project's focus because it is in line with what I am teaching.

Text: This text is an article that provides a great overview of the skills and cues we are learning in this lesson. I chose this text because I believe it is very condensed and easy for students to digest. After all, it is only about one page, but the format and design make it very clear and organized for students. It also has a video embedded into the article which gives students another useful piece of information presented differently.
Access: https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/protips/sports-and-activities/basketball/developing-basketball-shooting-form
Strategy: Independent Reading.
I would use this strategy for this text because I believe this text is short and condensed to where it will be great for students to look at and focus on the aspects they believe they need to improve on. This strategy will also allow students to process the information they are reading at their own pace. (2) (4) (11)
Functionality: The way that this text will help me reach my curriculum goals is by providing students with a comprehensive and credible piece of text that will help them understand the steps of shooting the basketball correctly. (2)
Diversity: This text is diverse for students because the video embedded in the article allows for it to be translated. It is also formatted clearly which will help students grasp the information easier. This text also is applicable to students of different skill levels and experiences, as well as still being a short engaging read. It can also be translated through Google Translate by going to Google Translate, going to the top, and clicking websites, setting the original language to “Detect language.” then the “Website,” and entering a URL. (1) (11) (4)
Evaluation of Text: The way I evaluated this text is by using a readability checker. The results said that this text difficulty is average, the age level is Seventh Grade and the age range is 12-13. I would still use this for the high school age level because it is still a great piece of information that clearly shows what cues and skills we will be doing in class.

What do both “E’s” in B.E.E.F stand for, and why are they important?

Written answer:

Text: Exit Slip
I chose this text because it will be able to challenge my students on what they were able to grasp pertaining to the skills and cues learned that day. The questions I asked are a mix of multiple choice and short answer which will allow students to show their knowledge on the topic.
Access: I created this myself, and I will have them printed out for the class. (4) (11)
Strategy: The strategy is also "Exit Slip" and I believe this is a great strategy because, at the end of the class, I want to see how well my students understand what we went over and learned in class. I believe an exit slip is a great way to do this because as the teacher I can see which students I may need to work more with to help them grasp the concepts. It also allows me to see what parts of my lesson I may need to adjust due to them not being effective. (3) (1) (4) (11)
Diversity: This text can be altered by me to meet the needs of any student. I can have it read to a student through a text reader, or I could even read it to a student. I could also translate it to any language for any student as well as, create alternative versions with different degrees of difficulty. (1)
Functionality: The way that this text will help me reach my curriculum goals is because this text can show the level of comprehension my class has of the information I am teaching them. Being able to see what I may need to adjust or continue to do is essential for me to be an effective teacher. (11) (4)
Evaluation of text: I evaluated this text by running it through a readability checker, the readability checker said that the reading difficulty is very easy, the grade level is 5th grade, and the age level is 10-11 years old. This difficulty and age level can be adjusted by me if I want to increase or decrease the difficulty of the exit slip. I do want these questions to be somewhat easy for students to understand and answer, but I still want to challenge them to show their knowledge of the topic. (3)
