Marisse Scott move to another country after she graduated as a nurse because of racism. Marisse moved to St. Lucia after graduating, she worked as a nutrition specialist for the ministry of health. Marisse Scott received many hardships throughout her career. When applying for nursing school, her hometown nursing school denied her because a black nurse would kill the patients. Throughout her nursing career she heard that phrase many times. But in St. Lucia, her skin colour would not be a problem as St. Lucia is a Caribbean country. She had more opportunity and would not face racism.

White people viewed Marissa and other black nurses as careless, senseless, and frightening. Marisse was told that she would shock the patients. Marisse's unfair treatment challenged white Canadian's perceptions of a "racism free society".
