         <title>LAFS.3.W.1.3 - Learning Goal: The student will
write narratives to
develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique,
descriptive details, and clear event sequences.&amp;nbsp; Using the Mysteries of Harris Burdick by Chris Van Allsburg.&amp;nbsp;1.&amp;nbsp; Have a copy of the book out on the table.&amp;nbsp; Allow the students to browse the pages they will notice that it is a book filled with pictures and captions only.&amp;nbsp; 2.&amp;nbsp; Encourage the students to choose one picture and associated caption to write a narrative story.&amp;nbsp; 3.&amp;nbsp; Provide a template for Sequence let the students choose whether to write the Beginning, Middle, and End to the story or to start the story and leave it for another student to continue and possibly finish. 4.&amp;nbsp; Publish the work with the picture from the book and post&amp;nbsp;in the Young Authors section of the library.</title>

         <title>The students at EVG utilize my media makerspaces during lunch and as reward time from their teacher. I am using STEAM and the EVG student needs as my guide for creating the center.  I keep the makerspace for two and a half weeks before moving on.  I love when students, who area not initially excited about the center, really warm up to the new activity and have fun while learning!      This month&#39;s makerspace promoted writing.  I selected a staple character and fun book - The True Story of the Three Little Pigs.  Please see below...........</title>

In the media center, I have set up a creation station. It is
stacked with color your own bookmarks and make your own bookmarks. I bought the
color your own from Demco and the make it yourself ones are from our Accucut
machine. The students use markers, stickers, and other decorations to make the
bookmarks.

         <title>Harry Potter Jigsaw Puzzle LAFS.5.RL.1.AP.2c: Determine the theme of a story, drama or poem from details in the text.                                                                                     I have 2 Harry Potter jigsaw puzzles set up in a corner of the Media Center. Students may come before school or while they are checking out books if they have a few minutes to spare. They will add to the first puzzle until it is done. There is also a recording sheet on the table with the puzzle. Students will use the recording sheet to add to a list of themes/lessons to be learned from the Harry Potter books.</title>

         <title>SHIRLEY WALLNER -IMS&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; has placed a large selection of markers, gel pens, colored pencils along with the new&amp;nbsp; &quot;coloring books&quot;&amp;nbsp; you see everywhere now&amp;nbsp;on a library table.&amp;nbsp;The students select one to color and keep it in the library. When they complete it they are allowed to place it a frame purchased at the dollar tree. The frame truly makes their work look like a MASTERPEICE! This makerspace is paired with many of our Famous Artist books that were seldom used until this makerspace appeared.</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>What is behind that cover?<br>Students at my school are creating new book covers after completing a SSYRA book. The activity consists of students selecting their favorite part of the book as the basis for the new cover. I have markers, gel pens, stickers, magazines , and&nbsp; craft items they may use for the cover.&nbsp;<br>The catch is they may not use any part of the original cover or title in their creation. I have a display of the SSYRA books along with the new improved covers. It is interesting to watch the students try to match the covers with the books. Some students have shared that they would not have chosen a particular book until they saw the new cover. This has been a great way to generate interest in the books.</div>]]></description>

         <title>This month my students have been creating book marks in the Language Arts Makerspace.  I challenged the students to create a book mark that illustrate their favorite book, or create an advertisement for reading. I received a donation of beautiful scrap papers from The Paper Merchant to use.  There are markers, crayons, glitter glue, sequins, stickers, ribbon and string available for the students to use. </title>

         <title>As an ARTS (STEAM) element, students were given card stock strips leftover from printing their patron cards and asked to make a book mark.&amp;nbsp; I set out markers, crayons, colored pencils, stickers and shaping scissors.&amp;nbsp; All book marks stayed on display in the media center until the end of the month as an incentive for others to &quot;out do&quot; one another. </title>
