Based on evidence like the earth heating up due to humans emitting harmful substances into the air whether it is carbon emissions to cars to hairspray, humans have caused the extinction event. If it gets too far, we will be unable to stop it and the Earth's temperature would increase drastically. The same thing happened to Venus, where its volcanoes put so much gas into the atmosphere that it sealed in all the heat. Although yes, there are changes we could make to better preserve the animals and habitats, we probably won't for a number of reasons, one being cost and another being the fact that people would lose their livelihoods.
