Dr. Adrian Garcia-Burgos leads Science is Magic, a project that blends scientific principles with magic to make STEM exciting, inclusive, and accessible. Through live shows and workshops, his team transforms complex concepts into interactive experiences that engage schools, festivals, and underrepresented communities across Scotland. Securing two grants, he has expanded the project’s reach and trained early career researchers in science communication. His leadership creates hands-on opportunities for researchers while inspiring young minds to see science as fun and approachable. Adrian’s dedication continues to break down barriers and make STEM a source of wonder for all.

Nicola has organised meetings of the Network of Postdoc Society Organisers for more than 5 years which have resulted in cross-society collaborations and University-wide PDRA-led events during Postdoc Appreciation Weeks. Beyond this, the IAD Researcher Development Team have provided leadership training, knowledge exchange, careers advice, and spoken at numerous PDRA events to raise awareness of the Concordat and Research Cultures Action Plans. All of this has been essential in enabling PDRAs to build momentum towards enhancing positive cultures across the University.

Further, she frequently takes responsibilities to create and maintain research cultures, as she has done as AIAI research staff representative and by being a key member in the Informatics Research Staff Society committee, a self-led support network for research staff in Informatics. In the many contexts that I have shared with her, I always had the feeling that I could count with her support and reliability.
