The rationale for the lesson was delivered clearly for instance use of tech tools (classcreen, youtube, word wall), student’s profile. The consideration for parents’ involvement is included. Slow pace, repetitions, use of videos to illustrate action verbs and matching activity thereafter make it very easy to understand. Use of gamification makes it interesting for the student to work on the task. Follow up lesson is also incorporated and learning objective which is to learn about action verbs is achieved.

Beth

Positive learning points emerge from the utilization of attractive visuals, videos, and gamification elements like "Match Up" and "WordWall" in the lesson which effectively engage the students. Additionally, the use of videos to demonstrate action verbs instead of static pictures exemplifies how appropriate technology can enhance the learning experience. We should not forget to get students to physically demonstrate actions such as running and wading, alongside high-tech engagement methods. Notably, the group's thoughtful use of Wordwall not only provides a gamified experience for students but also allows their parents to review quizzes with them. This accessibility for parents, facilitated by the use of smartphones and network connectivity, empowers them to participate in their child's education from anywhere and at any time.

Leng Leng:)

Leng Leng:)

Use of Class Dojo for reward system is explained before the start of the lesson and points were given at the end of the lesson. Use of zone of regulation in youtube as check in activity is a great starter. Lots of props and visuals (e.g. coloured disc on the floor) promote physical movement. Use of windmill (low tech tool) to do deep breathing is fun for kids, they will be motivated to do it. Revision of concepts can be helpful for recalling of prior learning experience. Examples of big and small problems and ways to manage are illustrated with video and this use of visual can enhance students’ learning prior to audio explanation by the teacher. Use of kahoot for assessment of learning at the end help the teacher to check for understanding.

Beth

The outcome of using songs to recap the ZOR to get students to warm-up is a surprise to me and I also feel warm-up by the catchy music.

-Use of low tech-using different ZOR colour mats and windmills incorporate movement for the student and it also allows students to demonstrate to you that they are doing it the correct way (deep breathing in this case). This shows that not only high tech can carry out the job well. Sometimes, you just need a low-tech to do so.

-Utilization of attractive visuals, videos , gamification elements like "Kahoot" in the lesson effectively engage the students.

-Engage the students by incorporating students' photos in one of the segments and using the Power Puff Girls theme to let students know that it is their turn to try out the scenarios.

Leng Leng:)

Loved the use of it being demonstrated in this manner. The gamification of the lesson especially on dry topics such as learning verbs was great and for sure can engage our students. I like it that it is a one-stop portal for both teachers and students - teachers do not need to toggle or use multiple means of tech/ hardcopy to do up a lesson. For sure I am going to try this out with my students!

~Maya

Using role-play together with the visuals allow the student to immerse in real-life experience which watching a video (tech) may not offer.

I like how the group utilised classroomscreen to neatly present all the different segments (e.g. Wordwall, YouTube) of the lesson. It makes it clear for the students what to expect at one glance on top of the checklist that and minimises the need to toggle the different tabs.

I like the incorporation of Match Up and WordWall that reinforces the students learning and allows for parents to be involved in the student's learning as well at home. It also creates competition among the students and this will increase student engagement.

A possible modification to the lesson I would do for my own students is to incorporate some physical movements to the lesson. E.g. when going through the different action verbs, instead of just verbalising it, I will get my students to carry out the action as well like running, creeping, walking.

Good job on the lesson!

-Liza

Use of Nearpod! Last our school used it for a small group Teachers' PD but we genuinely did not know that max participation is only for 50pax. There were about 55 of them so a few cannot participate. What a bummer!

But oh my! THIS IS WONDERFUL! I am for sure going to try Nearpod with my students! Again, the thought of a one-stop platform with my students saves time to manage other issues that may arise during sessions and students of the current generation are engaged whenever a tech platform is used. However, this does not mean that time taken to plan the lesson is reduced.

Actual pictures used are great and spot on! Zul also enlightened on a limitation of (free) Nearpod but which his team worked around, and which was useful for my future planning. I felt that the lesson was 'screen-heavy'. May not engage some students in the way expected. Perhaps introduce a couple of modes - movement, written, low-tech, role-play would be great.

Then VR! Oh wow! This is simply novel! My concern will be really 'filming' different social situations and the time taken to do this in our heavy schedules. But I want to try this at least once! Kudos to the team for having this done to show us what it will look like.

~Maya

Google Classroom is a classic e platform! It works well for the masses. At first when I used this, it was quite tough as I find that I need to constantly seek the 'classroom' that I want. Imagine in a secondary school, students will have many many 'classrooms' to manage. While some students can juggle Google Classroom, some need guidance to navigate but over time, they get used to it throughout the years. Good for parents to keep in touch with what their child is learning in school.

Quizzizz! A teacher in my school used this for short answer questions on grammar, even students who do not generally participate and are very quiet, they did!

Genially! Love the online board game! Another e tool to try for me!!! All so new! The board game is sooo cool. I can think of so many uses for this! So much to learn! So much to try! I am really looking into how I can make my lessons so engaging like all of those I have seen.

~Maya

You just need to click it to expand and start the activity. I love that it has a timer function.

The group shared the classroom rules which comprises of only 2 items. That is very good especially for our younger learners as it is very explicit:
1. Tried my best

2. Show good listening

Introduction of action verbs

It is an interesting idea to include short GIFs (from canva) of the action words.

It offers the visual kinesthetic feature.

The Match Up activity offers a nice drag and drop feature. The students will love to drag and drop just like most of the touchscreen games.

The Word Wall Quiz show.

The response given after the attempts are very flashy and catchy with a lot of sound effects and lots of points. It will definitely engage our young learners.

-Zulhilmi Akmal-

I enjoyed the Zones of Regulation Songs for Kids by Domenic Bianco. It was a very engaging song to sing-along with the kids.

ZOR check-in activity:

Using the coloured disc placed on the floor (step into the zone you are in) followed by the coloured pinwheels (practice deep breathing) were an amazing idea. 10/10!!!

I like that the group, despite the use of e-tools, did not forget about using movements.

Anuwar is very animated in his lesson delivery. It really helps to provide that fun, cheerful and most importantly safe environment. I can feel the energy channeled to the students and the spectators. Kudos!

-Zulhilmi Akmal-

I love the idea of using the red hand card to get the teachers attention. The group was spot on in identifying and addressing the difficulty when students try to get teachers attention in a classroom setting. During group discussions and as the teacher is addressing another group, students usually would raise their hand all the way until the teacher gets to them. With the Red Hand Card, it replaces the need for students to continually raise their hand. They can place the card as a visual prompt for the teachers, while they continue their group activity/discussion.

The Sesame Street: “Raise it up” Song on Youtube is very apt. Definitely catchy for our young learners.

-Zulhilmi Akmal-

The group was able to demonstrate the use of Google Classroom in their lesson delivery. All items were easy to retrieve as they were organized within the folder.

Focusing Attention and Ignoring Distractions.

1. Look at your work

2. Quietly count to five to calm down

3. Say, “I’ll focus all my attention on my work.”

4. Continue to work.

5. Say, “Good job! I paid attention!”

The steps were very clearly explained and easy to follow. The group even did their own video and voice over using canva. Amazing!

Quizizz is a nice alternative to kahoot. It can add videos in as well and automatically makes the student reattempt the question they got wrong.

Virtual boardgame created using Genially was a brilliant idea. The scenarios were embedded in a board game. Despite the repetition of the skillset during the boardgame play, it does not feel like a drag. Brilliant use of gamification to increase motivation and make the task manageable!

I really enjoyed the role-play session, where we could act as the distraction stimuli. If the lesson was conducted with a group of students, I am sure the students will also enjoy role-playing.

-Zulhilmi Akmal-
