         <description><![CDATA[<p><br/></p><p><strong>Subject</strong>:  Mathematics</p><p><strong>Level: </strong>Primary 2</p><p><strong>Lesson Topic/Concept:</strong>  Fractions </p><p><strong>Lesson Objectives:</strong></p><p>Students are able to </p><ol><li><p>recognise fractions as equal parts of a whole.</p></li><li><p>differentiate between equal and unequal parts</p></li></ol><p><strong>Focus on P.L.A.Y.</strong></p><p><strong>P(Purposeful): </strong>Links fractions to real-world connections through the country flags and spark their curiosity to the topic beyond the usual examples.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>A: </strong>allow students to relate knowledge into real life settings</p><p>( i.e students to reexamine flags that they see with the idea of fractions and equal parts)</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Brief Lesson Outline: </strong></p><p>Students will be learning fractions by exploring country flags to identify if they are divided into equal parts or not. </p><p><br/></p><p>In groups, students are to differentiate between unequal parts (not fraction) vs equal parts (fractions).</p><p><br/></p><p>Students will be able to share their answers with the class for discussion and conclude their thought -process that all not whole that is cut into parts are fractions. Only whole cut into equal parts are fractions.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p>]]></description>

They stayed engaged throughout, discussing their ideas and making good connections to what they’ve learned.          <description><![CDATA[<p>It was very creative how the teacher used the flag erasers to reinforce the concept of fractions - if the parts are equal. From the start, the students were very excited and engaged in the lesson. The teacher was very clear in her instructions and this enabled most of the students to complete the assigned task. As for the weaker students, the teacher provided individual support ensuring everyone was able to complete the task. This is definitely a fun way of learning fractions, something I would never have thought of. Great job, Bavani! ~ Maalini</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ol><li><p>The students were excited to see their favorite or familiar items used for lessons, which piqued their curiosity.</p></li></ol><ol start="2"><li><p>Students were actively engaged in the class and the discussion in figuring out the equal parts. This allowed them to articulate their ideas to their friends.</p></li><li><p>There were a few interesting questions that allowed teachable moments like equal parts vs symmetrical flags.</p><p><br/></p></li></ol><p><br/></p>]]></description>
