The Korean War highlights the Cold War in that it deals with communism vs. capitalism efforts as a reference to the US and the USSR. Both countries' involvement in the Korean War led to the split of Korea into North and South Korea. Communism held true in North Korea as persuaded to be by Soviet and Chinese efforts while South Korea modeled a capitalist system like that of America. This war also highlights the inherent differences between the US and the USSR in that the US's main priority during the Cold War was to implement the policy of containment as much as possible while the USSR prioritized the expansion of communism under Soviet control.

This was done with the hope that the Cuban leader Fidel Castro would be pushed out of power. However, it was a failed attempt by the Kennedy administration. McCarthy infamously declared that he had a list of every known communist spy in the United States Government.
