She expects them to follow her rules, sit where they are supposed to and listen to her directions. She threatens to have a student escorted out of class for not sitting in the right seat and listening to her when she tells them to move. The students do not respond well to her directions; they don’t listen to her very well, until she threatens them. The students don’t respond well to the teacher and the teacher does not respond very well to the students. When she finally starts teaching some of them slowly start to pay attention and listen to her. The second teacher is very gentle with her students, she lets them move to where they can see, and makes sure that the one who is laying her head down on her desk is feeling well. As she checks on her student she rubs her back. She is chatting and making small talk with her students. When she gets them off tasks she gets them back on task quickly and they listen to her. The second teacher is much nicer to her students and they respect her more, she still knows how to discipline them and keep them on task, and they still listen and respect her. It is important to have a mutual respect for one another, but to also be able to enjoy your time in the classroom. Children spend 8 hours a day in a classroom, for some of them it is the best part of their day. You need to make the learning environment a safe and fun area. In order for the environment to be a safe and fun area the students have to be able to trust in their teacher and respect their teacher. If you treat your students poorly they are not going to want to be around you and they will treat you poorly in return.

There is no need for a classroom to be run like the military, students can have fun and enjoy themselves while working and staying on task. As long as the classroom stays under control there is not need to get angry and yell at them. I will check in on my students when they seem off or I can tell that something is wrong with them. I want my students to feel like they confide in me if they need or want to.

It is not ok to make other students feel bad in any way shape or form.  A classroom should be like a family, you don’t have to be best friends with all of them all the time, but you must be kind and respect others. I think the most important thing for students is to be nice and have fun with each other, but knowing the timing. They need to know the proper time to talk to each other. They need to know the appropriate time to have fun, and to focus and learn.
