Plants take in Co2 and produce O2 through photosynthesis. It is this process which allows oxygen dependent life to exist on earth. I don't really like our chances if we keep on tearing down critical rainforests for cattle pastures.

This video gives a good visual explanation of whats happening inside of the Thylakoid. It also shows how the Calvin cycle is actually a cycle, with molecules continuing to interact until glucose or sucrose is formed. This video is fairly basic, but gets right to the point, and the soothing voice of the narrator reminds me of how I used to fall asleep in some of my high school classes! No wonder I'm learning much of this for the first time.

I believe the tundra biome is in the most direct danger due to climate change. Rising temperatures can affect glacier levels, sea ice levels, global sea levels, and even the territory that the tundra occupies. If the average temperatures rise, plants that normally wouldn't have been able to survive in the tundra will move north changing the definition of the biome as they go. I believe the tiaga will slowly encroach on the tundra. This will directly affect the sort of animals that can survive in the area, and reduces the habitat for animals native to the tundra.

The Neolithic revolution had a dramatic impact on human population. The abundance of food meant that human populations could stay in one place, and could breed more frequently. While this led to specialization among people who were not required to produce food, it also led to an increase in disease due to proximity to so many more people.

My father in law collects these old John Deere tractors from the 1920s and 30s. I can't even begin to imagine what it was like to trade in your horse for something this powerful. Having driven a few of these things, I can tell you they have a ton of torque. The difference in the amount of land that could be successfully cultivated and maintained between one of these and a team of horses would have been staggering!

I thought about using an image of the Badlands, or better yet, Providence Canyon State Park. The reality is though, agricultural practices are helping speed up climate change, desertification, and greenhouse gas emissions that could lead to a runaway greenhouse situation if left unchecked. Venus may be a bit of an extreme example since the Earth has systems to balance itself after we're gone, but perhaps worst-case scenarios are appropriate sometimes.
