The video showed the importance of staying on one task at a time, planning creates a focus on each individual component of a retell before combing all thoughts together (into a flowing paragraph). Helps keep your brain from moving all around with ideas.

I think having students plan in a timed situation is important because it creates an authentic scenario that will be used later in life - time is not limitless and deadlines are real! Kiddos need to plan their writing first so they can think through and create a 'skeleton' of what their writing task is asking. This will then help minimize the amount of time they are taskswitching, meaning the amount of time they are focused on the task, the format, the computer they are typing it on, what the paper looks like, etc .
