Adab Of Seeking Knowledge

Assalamualaikum and hi everyone. Today I want to share with you what I have learned from the usrah meeting in week 1.🫶🏻

In week 1, I learned about the adab of seeking knowledge. There are two types of manners included, and it is outward manners and inward manners. Outward manners are the manners that we should apply when learning in class. For example, repeat and review. This means we must revise what we have learned to strengthen our understanding. Other than that, we can take notes while learning in class, ask questions about what we don't know, and we should prepare ourselves before class through extra reading so that we are not left behind.

Next, there are inward manners. Inward manners come from our heart. It is because, without sincerity from the heart in learning, the knowledge we gain will not truly benefit us. Besides sincerity, we must also have the right intention in seeking knowledge. A clear and defined goal will guide us to stay focused and motivated. At the same time, we should show veneration towards our teachers and respect towards knowledge itself. By practicing good manners consistently and with consistency in our efforts, we will be able to strengthen both our character and our understanding.Good manners will give us useful knowledge that will bring us good.

Next, I will list down 14 adab of the Qurān

-Don't interrupt another's reading

-Recite in a melodious tone

-Recite calmly and not fast

-Begin with Ta'awudh & Tasmiyah

-Use 'itr before

-Close the Qurān when not reading

-Handle the Qurān with care & respect

-Do not place other books on top

-Don't let a day go by without looking at the pages of the quran

-Place the Qurān in a raised position

Pronounce every letter correctly

-Use a miswak

-Sit in a respectful manner

-To have wudū when reciting

Adab of the Qurān is very important because it shapes how we approach, understand, and benefit from the Qurān. It is also to show respect for Allah's word. Next, to help us gain barakah (blessings), to strengthen understanding, to protect us from carelessness, and to shape our character.

Assalamualaikum and hi everyone.Welcome back to my E-Portfolio. Today I want to share with you what I have learned from the usrah meeting in week 2 🫶🏻.

In week 2, I learned about the pillars of Islam. There are 5 pillars in Islam. The first is Shahada (the declaration of faith), followed by Salah(performing five daily prayers), Zakat (Almsgiving), sawm(fasting during Ramadan), and finally Hajj (Pilgrimage to Makkah). These pillars are the foundation of every Muslim's life and help us strengthen our faith and connection with Allah.

Now let's talk about the first pillar in Islam, which is Shahada (the declaration of faith). This is the core profession of faith: "There is no god but God; Muhammad is the Prophet of God". It is the fundamental belief and declaration of monotheism and the prophethood of Muhammad.

Next, the second pillar in Islam is Salah (performing five daily prayers). It is an act of worship where we stand, bow, and prostrate to Allah, reciting specific verses and supplications. The first salah start with Fajr which is before sunrise (2 rakaat), followed by Dhuhr done when midday after the sun passes its highest point (4 rakaat), and followed by Asr that been done in the afternoon (4 rakaat), and followed by Maghrib just after sunset (3 rakaat), and the last prayer perform is Isha that perform at night (4 rakaat).

After that, the third pillar in Islam is Zakat (Almsgiving). The annual obligatory donation of a fixed portion (2.5%) of a Muslim's wealth to the poor and needy. This purifies one's wealth and supports the community. Zakat acts as a powerful tool for economic justice and social harmony. By redistributing wealth from the affluent to the poor, it helps bridge the gap between the rich and the poor. This compulsory system of almsgiving serves as a form of social security, ensuring that vulnerable members of society, such as the poor, needy, and debtors, have access to necessities. This strengthens the bonds of brotherhood and mutual responsibility, allowing the entire community to flourish.

Moreover, the fourth pillar in Islam is Sawm (fasting during Ramadan). Muslims abstain from food and drink from dawn until sunset as a form of spiritual purification, self-discipline, and devotion to God. The act of fasting during Ramadan is a profound spiritual exercise with multiple benefits.

Spiritual significance:

Develops self-discipline and willpower

Fosters empathy and compassion

Increases God-consciousness (taqwa)

Encourages spiritual purification

The last pillar in Islam is Hajj (Pilgrimage to Makkah). The Hajj is the sacred pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca. Every Muslim who is physically and financially able is required to perform this pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime. As the fifth pillar of Islam, it is a profound spiritual experience that brings together millions of Muslims from around the world. The pilgrimage commemorates the story of the Prophet Abraham, his wife Hagar, and their son Ishmael.

Spiritual significance

Atonement for sins: The Hajj is believed to cleanse a Muslim's soul of all past sins.

Unity and equality: By wearing the same simple garments, pilgrims demonstrate that all are equal before God, regardless of wealth, status, or origin.

Submission to God: The rituals are an act of profound devotion, humility, and submission to the will of Allah.

Reminder of the Day of Judgment: The sight of millions of people standing together at Arafat serves as a reminder of the Day of Judgment.

The Five Pillars of Islam are the core acts of worship that form the foundation of Muslim faith and practice. These five duties—Shahada (faith declaration), Salat (prayer), Zakat (charity), Sawm (fasting), and Hajj (pilgrimage) guide believers to live a life of righteousness, devotion, and compassion. Through these practices, Muslims aim to strengthen their personal connection with Allah and foster unity within the global Muslim community.

Assalamualaikum and hi everyone.Welcome back to my E-Portfolio. Today I want to share with you what I have learned from the usrah meeting in week 5 🫶🏻.

In week 5, my friends and I learned about Ihsan. Ihsan is derived literally from the Arabic word hasana, which means to be good or to beautify. Allah really encourages humans to nurture ihsan in their souls. It is because people with ihsan are closer to god. Plus, people with ihsan are more certain to enter heaven. So, to achieve heaven, we must nurture ihsan in our hearts more deeply.

Everything that we do should be guided by ihsan, whether it is in our worship of Allah, in our relationship with people around us, or even in our daily tasks. When we practice ihsan, we will always try to do our best sincerely for the sake of Allah, not just to show others. For example, praying with full concentration, speaking kindly to others, helping those in need, and being honest in all matters are among the ways to show ihsan. By applying ihsan in our lives, we not only gain Allah’s pleasure but also create harmony and goodness in society.

Today I want to share with you what I have learned from the usrah meeting in week 6 🫶🏻.

In week 6, my friends and I learned about adab towards parents. Our naqibah told us about Prophet Ibrahim A.S.'s story and how he showed respect and kindness to his father, even though his father did not believe in Allah. Prophet Ibrahim A.S. spoke with gentle words, full of patience and wisdom. From this story, we learned that no matter the situation, we must always treat our parents with love, respect, and obedience, as long as it does not go against the commands of Allah. Our parents are the ones who raised us, cared for us, and made sacrifices for us. Therefore, having good adab towards them is a way to gain Allah’s blessings and mercy.

Other than that, we also need to devote ourselves to our parents, like doing something that could make them proud as a sign to repay their sacrifices. Even though we can never fully repay them, we can show our gratitude by studying hard, behaving well, and becoming a good person who makes them happy. Most importantly, we should always pray for their health, happiness, and forgiveness from Allah.

Adab means good manners, respect, honesty, and responsibility of people towards something. However, if our intention is wrong, like showing off, spreading lies, or wasting time, then we will not gain any benefit from it.

Assalamualaikum and hi everyone.Welcome back to my E-Portfolio. Today I want to share with you what I have learned from the usrah meeting in week 1 🫶🏻.

In week 1, my friends and I learned about wisdom, which we called hikmah. Hikmah means wisdom and intelligence in understanding, evaluating, and practicing the teachings of Islam correctly. Islam places great importance on hikmah because it helps a person distinguish between what is right and wrong and guides them to perform acts of worship with understanding and sincere intention for the sake of Allah. The purpose of human life is to worship Allah; therefore, even daily actions such as maintaining cleanliness can become acts of worship when done with the right intention.

Ihsan refers to being aware that Allah is always watching us. It encourages Muslims to protect their intentions, actions, and behaviour, to correct their mistakes, and to maintain sincerity in every act of worship. It also reminds us to feel that Allah is calling us when the azan is heard, and to always turn to Him in prayer and supplication. Worship should not be separated from ihsan and must be done sincerely, while remembering that this world is temporary and the hereafter is everlasting.

Additionally, in interacting with others, Muslims are encouraged to give advice and guidance with different approaches depending on each person’s background, showing wisdom and sensitivity in every situation. By practicing hikmah and ihsan together, a Muslim can live wisely, act responsibly, and stay mindful of Allah in all aspects of life.

Ibadah is more than just rituals, it is a way for Muslims to connect with Allah and give purpose to our lives. Even simple daily actions, like cleaning, working, or taking care of responsibilities, can become worship if done with the right intention. Ibadah also teaches us to know what is right and wrong, helping us make wise choices in everything we do.

We also need to implement ihsan in doing something, or being aware that Allah is always watching, makes our worship even more meaningful. It reminds us to be sincere, correct our mistakes, and behave well in all situations. Ibadah encourages us to respond to Allah’s call during azan, turn to Him in prayer, and rely on Him in life. It also guides us to deal with others kindly and wisely, stay calm in the temporary world, and focus on preparing for the eternal hereafter. By understanding the hikmah of ibadah, we can live more responsibly, sincerely, and with mindfulness of Allah in every part of our lives.

Preparation To Prayer

Assalamualaikum and hi everyone.Welcome back to my E-Portfolio. Today I want to share with you what I have learned from the usrah meeting in week 3 🫶🏻.

In this week, we learned 3 things that is really crucial and closely related to our prayer. The first point is, we learned about ablution (wudhu). Ablution (wudhu) is an act of worship that begins with intention (niat) to distinguish between acts of worship and daily habits as a human being. The intention is made at the time of washing the face. Among the recommended practices in ablution is washing each part three times. The obligatory acts of ablution include washing the hands up to the elbows, washing the face including the sideburn area as it is considered part of the face, wiping a portion of the head which according to the Shafi‘i school is sufficient even with a single strand of hair, and washing the feet up to the ankles.

In addition, any discharge or impurity must be cleansed beforehand as it is regarded as impure according to the Shafi‘i school. If water is unavailable, tayammum is permitted as a substitute for ablution by using clean soil or dust.

Next, we talked about our way doing prayer. Our naqibah kindly tell us about the proper way to do our wudhu. Prayer (solat) is an act of worship that begins with intention (niat) and standing upright properly. It continues with the opening takbir (takbiratul ihram), which is a verbal (qauli) act, followed by the recitation of Surah al-Fatihah, also qauli. The physical (fi‘li) acts include bowing (ruku‘) with tranquillity (tama’ninah), followed by standing upright (i‘tidal) with recitation, prostration (sujud) with tranquillity, and sitting between the two prostrations. The prayer also includes sitting for the final testimony (tahiyat akhir), reciting the final testimony and sending blessings upon the Prophet (selawat), which are verbal acts. The prayer is concluded with the salam, where at least one salam is obligatory while the second is sunnah. If a sunnah ab‘ad is omitted, sujud sahwi should be performed either before or after the salam.

Lastly, we talked about the rukhsah that allah has given when travelling, where we can combine two prayer at one time but following the rule. It is called as Jamak and Qasar. Jamak and qasar are concessions in prayer provided for Muslims who are travelling. Qasar refers to shortening the prayer, where four-unit (rak‘ah) prayers are reduced to two rak‘ahs. Jamak taqdim is the combination of two prayers performed at the time of the first prayer, for example performing the Asr prayer during the time of Zuhr. In jamak taqdim, the prayers must be performed consecutively without separation. Meanwhile, jamak ta’khir refers to combining two prayers at the time of the second prayer, where the intention must be made during the time of the first prayer. In jamak ta’khir, a person may choose which prayer to perform first. Among the conditions for jamak and qasar is that the journey must reach a distance of approximately 80 kilometres and the purpose of travel must be permissible in Islam and not for sinful activities. For your information, only fajr prayer is not allowed to be shorten or combined to any other prayer.

The Hikmah Of Being Khushu’ In Prayer

Assalamualaikum and hi everyone.Welcome back to my E-Portfolio. Today I want to share with you what I have learned from the usrah meeting in week 4 🫶🏻.

In this week, my friends and i learn about, the hikmah of being khushu’ in prayer. There are 6 of them which is :

1. Prayer Is Our Time with Allah

Prayer is a special moment between a servant and Allah. It is not merely a routine, but a sacred connection with Him.

Therefore, we should not mix worldly matters with our time with Allah during prayer.

Allah says:

“Successful indeed are the believers.”

(Surah Al-Mu’minun: 1)

This success begins with prayer performed with khushu‘, where the heart is fully present with Allah.

2. At-Ta‘ah (Obedience and Loyalty)

Praying with khushu‘ cultivates at-ta‘ah, which means obedience and loyalty to Allah.

When prayer is practiced from a young age, it becomes a lifelong training in obedience and it nurtures a soul that:

-Obeys Allah sincerely

-Submits willingly to His commands

-Avoids rebelling against His laws

3. Al-Jihad (Striving Against the Self)

Prayer is also a form of jihad, the struggle against one’s own desires, For example:

When you are about to rest and suddenly the adhan is called

When the body feels tired and the heart feels heavy

This is where true jihad takes place choosing Allah over personal comfort. By remembering Allah, the heart finds peace. Prayer trains us to develop inner strength and discipline.

*The Prophet ﷺ taught the Tasbih of Fatimah:

33 times Subhanallah

33 times Alhamdulillah

34 times Allahu Akbar

This practices teaches consistency, patience, and effort in fighting desires.

4. Muhasabah (Self-Reflection)

It is impossible for someone who truly prays with khushu‘ to have a dead heart.

Allah says:

“The believers are those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts tremble.”

(Surah Al-Anfal: 2)

A focused prayer develops:

Fear and awareness of Allah

Constant self-evaluation

Supplication with sincerity

When we understand and reflect on the meanings of the prayer, khushu‘ leads to deep self-reflection.

5. Infaq (Awareness and Guardedness of the Heart)

Those who safeguard their prayers are granted a sense of infaq, meaning awareness and responsibility.

They realize that:

All knowledge and abilities are entrusted by Allah, not owned absolutely

One should never judge others, because only Allah knows whose taqwa is greater

Prayer protects the heart from arrogance and careless judgment.

6. Tawaddu‘ (Humility)

Sujood (prostration) symbolizes total submission to Allah.

It reminds us that:

Everything we possess like intelligence, beauty, and success is from Allah

Without Allah, we are nothing

Prayer with khushu‘ encourages us to reflect:

“What deeds will I present before Allah in the Hereafter?Plus, It trains our heart to:

Purify intentions

Stay humble

Attribute all praise back to Allah

Assalamualaikum and hi everyone.Welcome back to my E-Portfolio. Today I want to share with you what I have learned from the usrah meeting in week 5 🫶🏻.

In this week, my friends and I learned about the hikmah of fasting, and talk about the month of shaaban.

The month of Sha‘ban is a training month before Ramadan. It prepares us physically and spiritually for fasting.

For example, if we aim to complete the Qur’an during Ramadan, we should begin training in Sha‘ban.

This is similar to exam preparation — we practise repeatedly until we are fully ready to perform at our best.

Allah says:

“O you who believe, fasting has been prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may attain taqwa.”

(Surah Al-Baqarah: 183)

Scholars have reflected on this verse in different ways:

One opinion states that knowing people before us also fasted increases motivation and encouragement.

Another opinion explains that although the verse was revealed during the time of the Prophet ﷺ and his companions, its message is for us to improve ourselves and become better than our past selves.

The ultimate goal of fasting is tattaqun (taqwa) — being conscious of Allah in every action.

A person with taqwa carefully considers whether Allah is pleased or displeased with their actions, because life itself is an act of worship.

Hikmah of Fasting (Wisdom of Fasting)

1. Fasting Trains Patience (Sabr)

Fasting nurtures patience in many aspects:

Patience in obeying Allah

Patience in controlling desires

Patience in avoiding what Allah has forbidden

Patience in facing trials and hardships

Through fasting, Allah grants strength and endurance to the believer.

2. Fasting Develops Taqwa

Fasting teaches us to be cautious in every matter.

It trains the heart to constantly remember Allah and to act carefully, knowing that Allah is always watching.

Taqwa is like being alert at all times, ensuring our actions do not lead to Allah’s displeasure.

3. Levels of Fasting

Fasting has three levels:

The basic level
Abstaining from food and drink only.

The disciplined level
Abstaining from food and drink while guarding all body parts from sin.

The highest level
Fasting of the heart — restraining it from excessive worldly attachments.

4. Fasting Cultivates Mercy (Rahmah)

Fasting helps us understand the reality of sustenance (rizq) — not everyone is blessed equally.

It softens the heart and increases empathy for those who are less fortunate.

5. Sharing Food Brings Equal Reward

Islam encourages generosity.

Whoever provides food for someone who is fasting will receive the same reward as the fasting person, even if they themselves are unable to fast.

This shows that fasting is not only personal worship but also a social act of compassion.

6. Motivation Through Reward

Islam motivates believers by promising great rewards.

Among them is Laylatul Qadr, a night better than a thousand months.

This teaches Muslims to strive harder, stay consistent, and aim for excellence in worship.

In conclusion, fasting is not merely abstaining from food and drink.

It is a training of the soul that:

Builds patience

Strengthens taqwa

Purifies the heart

Encourages mercy and generosity

Through fasting, Allah prepares believers to become better servants in both this world and the Hereafter.

Zakat

Assalamualaikum and hi everyone.Welcome back to my E-Portfolio. Today I want to share with you what I have learned from the usrah meeting in week 6 🫶🏻.

In this week, my friends and inlearned about zakat. Zakat meaning and difference from tax is “to grow and increase.” It is different from tax because zakat is an act of worship (ibadah) commanded by Allah. Paying zakat is obligatory, and a Muslim who neglects it without a valid reason commits a sin. In contrast, not paying tax is not considered a sin in religious terms. Zakat has strong spiritual value, while tax does not, because zakat is performed solely in obedience to Allah’s command.

Status and Value of Zakat

Zakat holds a very high status in Islam. In the Qur’an, zakat is frequently mentioned alongside prayer (solat), which led scholars to interpret that zakat is nearly equal in importance to prayer, as both are highly valuable acts of worship. Generally, zakat and charity (sadaqah) involve giving, but they are not the same.

Zakat vs. Sadaqah

Zakat is compulsory and has specific conditions, pillars, and prescribed times. Sadaqah, on the other hand, is voluntary, encouraged by Allah, and can be given at any time without fixed rules. Its scope is very broad and includes simple good deeds such as smiling.

Benefits and Wisdom of Zakat

One of the main benefits of zakat is tawakkul (trust in Allah). A person who gives zakat believes in Allah’s promise that whatever is spent will be replaced, as Allah is the Best Provider. Zakat also strengthens ukhuwah (brotherhood) by reducing the gap between the rich and the poor and reminding us that within our wealth lies the right of others.

Hadith Reference

This is supported by a hadith narrated by al-Bukhari which states that a Muslim is a brother to another Muslim, emphasizing mutual care and responsibility within the Muslim community.

Today I want to share with you what I have learned from the usrah meeting 🫶🏻.

In this week, my group presented about why we need to be khusyu?. We learned and shared with others about the wisdom and the reason. Khusyu’ means having full focus, calmness, and humility, especially in worship, with the heart and mind fully aware of Allah. We need to khusyu’ in salah to achieve a very quality ibadah and to make us closer to Allah.

On my part, I talk about the third reason and the fourth one. Firstly, we need to khusyu’ in salah because prayer is a communication with allah. For example, when we talk to other people, we will focus to them so it can help to improve our relationship with them, same goes when we do salah, we need to khusyu’ and give our attention only to Allah. Plus, we also need to khusyu’ in salah because, khusyuk is a sign that we are truly aware of whom we are communicating with.

Other than that, when prayer is performed with khusyuk, it brings inner peace, as our hearts become calm and peaceful. By focusing solely on Allah, we are able to forget our worries, stress, and problems for a moment, which helps us feel emotionally balanced and spiritually relaxed.

This is the link for our video 🫶🏻.

https://youtu.be/pDitO-eYf7I?feature=shared

I learned many valuable lessons every week. These lessons not only strengthen my relationship with Allah but also guide me in dealing with people around me.

This usrah has also taught me the importance of teamwork, respect, and sharing ideas with friends. I am truly grateful to have my naqibah as a leader and group members who are really supportive and excited to be friends with.

My suggestion is, maybe my usrah assistant should do more activities to make the learning sessions more fun, such as group discussions, short quizzes, or interactive games, so that everyone can participate actively. This can help us to stay active, feel more fun to share our thoughts, and to gain a better understanding from the lessons being taught.
