“ Tennessee Williams infuses Blanche and Stanley with the symbols of opposing class and different attitudes towards sex and love” I do agree with this because there is an instant contrast between Blanche and Stanley. Blanche is more well spoken and is much more educated than Stanley. This highlights the different classes. Also, what they consider love to be is different. Stanley only considers love to be a physical act, which satisfies his animal desires. Blanche considers it as an act of passion.

"Blanche is both a villain and a victim" I don't think it's fair to label Blanche as a villain as she is mainly portrayed as a victim in the play. The death of her husband has clearly left her scarred, therefore all of the lies she has told herself along with the people around her aren't to cause harm but simply mask her past.

"Blanche's struggle in Streetcar is not so much with Stanley as with herself in her efforts to achieve lasting intimacy"- Cardullo

This is a quote basically tells us that Blanche is her own problem. I both agree and disagree with this as yes Blanche does not help herself in many situations (she seems to enjoy and thrive off of conflict and confrontation). However her struggle is aided by many other characters (including Stanley, her deceased husband, her family and many others) meaning that yes she may be to blame for the bulk of her worries and struggles however this is hindered by other characters.

“Blanche is both a villain and a victim”
I agree with this statement as Blanche is considered accountable for the death of her husband and is also seen as a highly manipulative character. On the other hand, Blanche is certainly a victim as her mental health rapidly begins to decline due to the guilt of her past actions.
