Only half my students participated while the other half did not log in. Many students did not have devices or working devices and many families did not have the same internet speed. (not equitable in my opinion). I was very uncomfortable to be online and show through sychronous (this could have also contributed to lower participation) as there were no concrete guidelines through the Ontario College of Teachers. For confidential reasons cameras were unable to be on, but sound was available. I remained online throughout the instructional day doing lessons and answering questions for the courses I was taching. I had much more student involvement and all students had access to great internet and devices. The startup was very stressful as the new math curriculum was also something that was happening at the time. There were not as many resources in the startup as their were as the months went on. At the start I was working around the clock nonstop creating fun and innovative lessons, trying to build a positive classroom culture and foster and create positive relationships with the students in my class. As the months went on I started to get into more of a groove. All of us grade 7 teachers in our Hub banned together we shared resources and helped each other out. I have never felt so much teamwork in an entire staff before. There were many bumps along the way such as myself losing internet when construction was happening at my house. It was also very challenging to get students to complete their work. many students would turn in assignments on Google Classroom without completing the work. I had a very large class of 36 with many high needs. I created individual Google Classrooms for some of the students in my class working on modified expectations and personalized them to make the student feel more comfortable. My biggest challenge was students logging in keeping their camera off and leaving the class. It is a tricky balance for grade 7 as many studnets are self conscious of themselves or their home environment, so being on camera was not pushed. Many of which my students showed me. This helped keep things new and interetsing so students wanted to learn.
