Classroom Activity #2: Alphabet Image Scavenger Hunt
This activity has a list of all of the letters A-Z with a blank next to each letter. The student is to go around the room looking for an item that has the letter as its first letter in its name. This activity requires the entire class to be split up into two groups. The teams can create a name for themselves. There is a set list of vocabulary words, and teams take turns having a "batter up." If the student gets the word pronounced correctly, they get a run. If the batter (student) gets the word incorrect, the other team gets a chance at it. Keep track of runs/points and whoever has the most at the end of the word bank, that team wins.

Classroom Activity #2: iSpy CVC Words
This activity is a worksheet with a word bank at the bottom, with age and grade appropriate vocabulary words that require students to find a picture above that correlates to the word. There are more pictures than words so students cannot simply circle all of the pictures. This activity can be used and implemented in a lot of different ways. Scholastic News magazines are a great time to have students read aloud in front of their peers, with unfamiliar text, and unfamiliar topics. These unfamiliarity's encourage students to get out of their comfort zone and work on their reading fluency.

Classroom Activity #2:Fluency Strips 
Fluency strips that work on word families, spelling patterns, and high frequency words.  They consist of short sentences such as “the cat is on a hat” or “my hat is on the mat.” Students would practice reading through them and teacher would read the sentence first and students would echo read and then chorally read student-teacher together. Then student reads together alone. Student should be able to ready fluently and quickly with expression.

Over the course of a chapter book read as a class students fill out a graphic organizer that goes over: point of view, genre (non-fiction, fiction, fairy tale, etc.), setting, time frame, and a problem in the story. This graphic organizer will force students to think critically about the story and focus deeper than surface level. It will also help determine how well a student really grasps the book and its concepts.

Classroom Activity #2: Multiple questions
Students read short passages based on their reading level. Questions will cover topics such as characters, main events, setting, etc. Students should be able to base their answers on the information given in the text.

Students and their families can use StorylineOnline in order to listen to a vast library of online books. These books are read by authors, actors and actresses, athletes, and other notable figures to keep listeners engaged. There are grade level recommendations to steers listeners in the right direction, and can challenge themselves as much or as little as desired. This activity uses a program called Heggerty which uses phonemic awareness and stretches' students understanding of word formation. There are multiple areas of phonemic awareness within the 35 week program, with a different set of words and strategies for each day. Students will hear individual aspects of a word, and then substituting, deleting, and adding pieces into the word.

Classroom Activity #2: Rhyme Matching Game
Cut out a whole bunch of words with sets of three words that rhyme and have students select and organize them by the sets of three rhyming words.
