It consisted of the "Big Three" which refers to; Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin. They met a week before the assault on Iwo Jima in February 1945. Allied forces were beating Hitler's army from both the East and the West and the "Big Three" had to make some decisions about Europe post war. Roosevelt had just fixed tension in his own party by electing Harry Truman for vice president, and now he was going to Yalta to fix the tension between the Western nations and the Soviet Union. However, getting the Soviet Union to join the United Nations would be much harder than he thought. Stalin only agreed to help defeat the Japanese if he was given Asian territory. The people were extremely disappointed in Roosevelt's performance at Yalta. He hoped the bomb would be enough for Japan to surrender and they would not have to invade them. He also wanted to show the soviets of its power for post world war II policies. Truman was right to drop the bomb.
