The key takeaway for the day is that we need to encourage empowerment to everyone under your management especially young generation. Young generation have a lot of ideas and they know the world is operating. They should be given the opportunity to share and act on their ideas by empowering them. There are no limit to empowering however empowerment came with responsibilities. The main job of managers or leaders is to provide mentoring and coaching on top of the empowerment. The best way visualize this is tying a person with a string and let him or her go as far as they can and pull them back when they require help or guidance in fulfilling their role.

I believe that three speakers summed up their individual experience very well and can be summarized into 3 main things which are:

(a) empowerment of youth in workplace – employees should be given the opportunities to grow by providing the platform to make decisions, inputs and mentorship,
(b) women in workforce, especially on the Management and Board representatives – and their challenges, and
(c) domestic violence and the importance of speaking up. This session also inspires me to participate in contributing back to society by offering my existing knowledge and expertise.

I hope Dr Nasuha & GSB could arrange this kind of session more!

1. Rafiuddin Rosland
2. zp03802
3.

Women empowerment is the process of empowering women at the workplace or in the society. Empowerment does not only apply to women, but it also applies to men. The sharing session today has helped me to understand that self-empowering is an important process or skill to succeed or survive.

We can take the example of women empowerment to understand what empowerment is. Women have been discriminated against for the longest time in many societies globally. It took several brave women to voice out in order for this movement to succeed. Nevertheless, this has changed the social context in the 20th and 21st century. Nowadays, we can see that there is an increasing number of women in senior management positions in many big companies including multinationals.

Nevertheless, leaders play an important role in empowering their employees or subordinates. Mentoring is important to ensure that the new generation of workers feel empowered at the work place and not afraid to voice out. On top of mentorship, the employees have also to be equipped with the right technical and soft skills to be more empowered.

Finally, self-empowerment and empowering others are important skillsets that leaders are required to have to become successful.

Student ID: ZP03894

Women continues to face challenges in the workforce and are often stigmatise as being emotional and difficult. one of the biggest barriers is the fact that it is almost ingrained in our culture that women and men are not equal.

However, the women empowerment movement has risen in recent years and government and organisation have put real efforts to push forward gender equality and promote better working environment for women e.g maternity leave, mother’s room in offices. This not only helps women to join the workforce but also provide them the same opportunities as their male counterparts.

Domestic violence against women is one of the subjects where we as a society, we shy a way from, it is almost taboo to be talking about it.Being abused both physically and mentally can have a negative impact to a person in a long run. Organisation and the community need to have a better system to support the victims. There needs to be an avenue for them to report and at the same time be protected.

As the world is changing and demand for equal opportunities by all (age, gender, religion) become more apparent, organisations need to adapt and adopt policies that do not marginalise or deter their people’s growth. Hence, leadership is important to push forward the organisation and to deal with the specific nuances of each generation. For the younger generation, they need empowerment and do not like to be controlled and this has proven to be difficult for some, as they do not want to compromise or change the way they do things.

Based on today’s talk, I have gathered a lot of information about women’s involvement and leadership in this new era of globalization. Firstly, timeline of women’s involvement started with women were stay-at-homers at PRE to 1990 and as time passed, in 2000 we could see that women start to get positions in top management level in government’s and private’s sector. Next, how can women persist in maintaining their position? This were done by having relevant skill such as soft skill which an ability to influence people to accept their ideas, technical skill and also negotiating skill. Besides, it could also be preserved by having a strong support system that mainly gained from family members. Last but not least, there are several approaches on how to empower women that includes mentorship, academic and career development, social transformation together with networking.

In my opinion, all three of the panellist portray different ways in which Tn. Hj. Ahmad Zakie emphasizes how women position changes throughout the history and the difference before, now and then, while Pn. Nirmala is emphasizing more towards her experience in corporate and the importance of skill sets into creating and adding value in the business as one of the board members. Meanwhile Pn.

It was really interesting to have Tn Hj Zakie, Mdm Nirmala and Puan Fadilah as the panels for the leadership in complex times slot. I liked that Tn Hj mentioned that women and men should complement each other in the management of an organisation whereby women are the ones who are encouraging and transformational leaders and men are transactional leaders who are performance driven to come together and provide both support and empowerment. Besides that, it was inspiring to have Madam Nirmala who climbed up the ladder up to the director position in two companies to share her experiences. As her words uttered, we need to build good support system at home in order to stay strong in the field despite all the personal and family commitments. She also emphasized that it is vital to exhibit your value as a director and this requires good soft skills, negotiation skills, technical skills and able convey your ideas effectively. Finally, Puan Fadilah as a woman of charisma inspired me too. Despite of her own issues of domestic violence, she was able to overcome that obstacle to empower women out there to be bold and help others in need. I really liked her approach of thinking positively and always find solutions for the challenges instead of giving excuses. Men or women, it is up to the individual who shows quality leadership even at complex times.

The session we had today been interesting, interactive and informative. The talk given by 3 panels from different experiences has given more information on leadership. Women leadership is the topic discussed and from it we are able to know the difference between men and women leadership. We learn that women and men leadership complement each other. There have been women evolution throughout and more women are encouraged, respect, given equality, opportunity to be equally treated without gender bias. Throughout this talk, there was a lot of information given ex: on leadership skills such as negotiation, data analytical &technology, soft skills, able to add value, able to voice out their opinion and many more. Empowerment is another discussion which is interesting it’s given by the last panel Pn Fadilah. In my opinion the talk given by Pn Fadilah was inspiring on how she stood up for herself and on how she is leading /helping the other women’s which are abused. In conclusion leadership is a skill which can be learned and there is no bias of gender, or either technology. It depends on the individual capability and perspective or view.

ZP03629
In today session, the speakers give me a good explanation regarding how. To be a good leader and as a woman to handle the complex situation. Tuan Haji Zaki share a good knowledge that i can use and implement it on my working environment. Based on my understanding during the session, a good leader has the ability of the ethical person to shine through to leadership. A good leader must have the ability to demonstrate the skills and knowledge to undertake the tasks expected. Experience make us strong to face the situation in future. We dont have to scared ti share our experience to others. The strong leader are the leader that understand their environment and they can adapt whatever situation. A good leader maintains and develop skills, knowledge and experience in themselves and others. A good leader takes responsibility for our own as well as others actions and a good leader. Have a clear direction to guide others and show a good example to others. This session is a good session to students participate and more clear about the leadership. In conclusion, gender shouldn’t be a factor in whether or not a person can be a great leader. A person’s leadership abilities should depend on their individual strengths and personality traits. Never be afraid of displaying the qualities and instincts you possess naturally.

Leadership Pep talk session today was amazing which ended up well with sharing session. This type of talk is utmost important and spot on targeting audience such as UKM GSB MBA student. As the speakers are from the era of baby boomers to generation X, this give the opportunity to other generations to pick up the baton and equip knowledge with progressive action to produce the power to change the world to be better place. Tuan Haji Zakie brought consensus that leadership of men and women although differs but given the opportunity it can complement each other to co-exist and thus create synergy to drive growth and innovations in an organization and nations. Most of the organizations in the world has been utilizing men-made business organization model which has fair share of success and the impact had been around and still lingers. Introduction of women into the workforce consequently added the necessary enhancement which injected much needed energy and enthusiasm into the working environment as well as the modern business model. Subsequently, evolution of modern women rising from being kitchen genius and master of keeping the household secure to organization forefront “general” should be recognize for their accomplishment. One of the evident is Madam Nirmala. Not forgetting Madam Fadhilah, who try to make this world we live in a better place. Madam Fadhilah fight had been incredible, which most victim of domestic abuse only live on to blame themselves. She rise to the top armed with springboard of positiveness and lead others to live their (victims) life as well in the same manner. Women, you have my salute and men who understand support and respect them deserves a badge of honour.

In today's session, there are a few key points about women leadership and opened up my mind about it. In the past, women did not have the right to work or even socialize with others. Since World War II, women finally got the chance, in which they can contribute to the war but with limited exposure. And recent decades or years, women can be part of the board and even be the leader in a big and renowned corporate. What we see in recent society is a fair position between men and women, by looking at those posters in older days, I was surprised that women were discriminated badly. And I cannot imagine how hard the women fought to achieve current position in the society. This deserved a very huge compliment to them.

In current society, women are the leaders in corporate world at international level. What I can say about women's leadership is, they are more to transformational type, which are more empathy, team oriented compared with result oriented men leader. Meanwhile, they are more considerable and understanding; they care about how their employees feel and they realize this can affect their work performance. People might say women leaders are emotional, but from positive side, this shows that they have passion in work, and they treat their employees as the family members. And lastly, I was impressed by the women speakers today, they have showcased their charisma and they are so charming. What I can see is their confidence as leaders, and they are much stronger than men I believe. In my point of view, leadership will be different between men and women, but a good leader should not be differentiated between genders, but how they perform at workplace, especially at high tension level.

Some of the topics covered reflected on my personal career growth. I was very impressed with Pn. Fadilah’s sharing. Besides that, I was also amazed with Tn. Haji Ahmad Zakie’s sharing too. Indirectly, he alerted me to focus on my career. If there is no career advancement despite achieving tremendous KPI results, then it’s not worth to be in that organisation. Mdm. Nirmala’s sharing reflected on the corporate career which I left 4 years ago. In a nut shell, this sharing session deserves a hats off!

In my organisation (DELL Malaysia), woman leaders focus on customer-employee relationship while men leaders prefer chase the deadline to prove they can do better. Women are currently resolved to interrupt the standard cap that barred them from coming into leadership positions whether or not they possessed requisite skills and talent to occupy them. Women are perpetually evolving and reaching new milestones across a wide spectrum of human activities in modern times. The world has witnessed the advent of women pioneers such as Indra Nooyi, Oprah Winfrey, Theresa May and Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Women’s empowerment transforms the world. Empowerment includes the action of raising the standing of women through education, raising awareness, literacy, and training. Women's empowerment is all regarding mobilisation and allowing women to make life-determining decisions through the various issues in society. Ability for women to enjoy their right to regulate and benefit from the resources, assets, income and their own time, as well as the ability to manage risk and improve their economic status and well being. Every Malaysian can contribute towards the country’s progress through qualities of self-control such as high respect for oneself then to one another. Just like Madam Fadhilah said, is all just about respect in order to lead the organization even we are still young among the other followers. Respect need to be protected and improved to achieve excellence. In this age, honour can prevent a person or a country from being subjugated. The strength of self-respect does not apply only to military strength but also the protection of self-respect in terms of overall social life stability. The following are behavioral values that can build up high self-respect: not easily disappointed, always proactive and looking for opportunities to pursue ambition, brave, fair, confidence, honest, always improving work standards, protect and value local traditional culture, dynamic and changes according to the passage of time and others.

Being a woman is not easy to handle of ourselves from various of aspects especially physically and emotionally. From today’s experiences that shared and impress by the three of panels, I understand that woman can be more successful and make the world change based on our capabilities. But we need to stand firm to be brave and voice out that we think the thing is the right. As for now, I can conclude that for future on wards, woman should have the rights to get the happiness, to be protected and to give opportunities. From these, they can transform the individual and societies to be more powerful. Genderism should not be the obstacles from the every of individual to lead a better generation in future.

Name : Ratna Priya Varatharajan
Student ID: ZP03814

Today my key takeaway from Leadership Class which conducted by Dr Nasuha were the difference of leadership style between men and women, voice out opinion/ ideas & self-confidence. The class held remarkably with 3 successful panelists.

The first key takeaway I got from Tun Haji Ahmad Zakie was the difference of leadership style between men and women whereby women’s leadership style is transformational which sound interesting because women more cooperative and have indirect communication skills in this current developing business industry. Compared to men their leadership style is more transactional. Second key take away from Dr Nirmala was as a future leader should be able to voice out and influence the ideas. Thus we must know on how to spread the ideas well especially to our superiors. As per Dr Nirmala, mentioned that we have to deal with multiple directors with different personalities, so make sure our ideas caters them accordingly. The third key point I got from Pn Fadilah was be a person with self- confidence and strong. Like what Pn Fadilah said as a women should face any challenges bravely and make a solution from the challenges / problems rather than making it as another barrier in our life. No matter any challenges, brave and self- confidence play a very crucial role in our life to overcome it.

To conclude from today’s talk it was a fantastic session with all the panelist and also Dr Nasuha where has gained many ideas and steps on how to be a successful leader.

Today's talk was a motivational and inspiring to me where they talk about women's leadership in corporate field. There are 3 speaker who gave this talk ; Tuan Haji Zakie ; Madam Nirmala; Madam Fadilah.

Tuan Haji spoke about women's involvement in career line. Those days women was told to be at home and take care of the family and that what they do as well. He even shared the history in how women involved slowly in career. He shared some poster used to portrait women in 80's, 90's and 20's. He said women should be women not mens even they are doing the men's job. By wearing pants coats and shoes women are not mens. They are some other characteristics which mens don't have. He shared the way in how women's and men's handle things in career.

Madam Nirmala shared about her experience being a successful career women. She is in the board director for 2 companies. She started her career in finance industry. She told that her family was her main support for her success. They supported her to achieve her goals. She shared some skillset that's we should have to be a good leader; soft, technical and negotiate skill. As a leader we should know on how the business run, how to manage the people in the management and how to deal on the technology growth. By understanding this and having this skillset anyone can be a good leader and be the member of the board director. Even she said many graduates are women compared to mens but the success rate in career are mostly mens because many women give up their career once they are married. As a women they need support from their husband, family and as in law for them to grow more in career line.

Madam Fadilah also shared her own experience where she was a survivor of domestic violence.

Sivakumar a/l Subramaniam
ZP04037

Today's talk was all inspiring and was not the usual session for us where we attend classes . The talk was all about the role of youth and women empowerment . Youths are often underestimated for being childish ,pampered bunch and choosy when comes to work and responsibility. The speakers proved that all this perception are wrong and there lots of ideas that can be learn from the youths. Even though they are senior by age and experience, but they admit the capabilities of GenY. The talk on women empowerment was superb . Women empowerment are lacking in many institution especially in government institution. Many are mere followers and are afraid to voice out their opinion at work place. I am totally against domestic violence against women. A developed country is a country that protects violence against women. Hope to attend many more talks from Tuan Haji Ahmad Zakie , Madam Nirmala and Pn Fadilah.

Reflective Journal
Name: Siti Rosnani Binti Mat Yaacob
Student ID: ZP04035

As an MBA student, I am very lucky to have three Panels who are very experienced in these industries to share with all of us regarding an important part of our life. Firstly, the most obvious thing that I discovered was the advantage of being a woman and very lucky to have a career to contribute to the nations. I learned that every woman have an important role and always see with different perspectives such as they tying the employees transformed their self-interest to the goals, Encourage employees like their own children by motivating and persuade to be better. This is because women feel more empowered to stand up on women employees and creating a more welcoming environment like home. Women always inspired by their parents and them practice soft skills. They see the problem as a challenge, always use talk therapy, stay focus and never give up. Each time a woman stands up for herself, she also stands up for all women. Empowering women is not easy they need to have knowledge and self-confidence to bring herself stood in the good platform. This empowering technique requires them to know themselves. The beautiful women skills help a lot in the board by using the soft skills influence others in decision-making; win negotiation and voice out their opinion with justification. I found the energy and power of the women in the Management level made me feel more energetic about contributing something to my own company and inspire me to do better leader in the future. Key to take are Confident, be you and self-empowerment are important to bring yourself to the next level. Thank You Madam Nasuha for arranging a very inspiring session for all of us.

Women Leadership

Name: Rasyidah binti Mhd Adnan

Student ID: ZP03804

Today’s session is a very interesting and informative one. It focused on women leadership, which is a topic that really catched my attention. In the speech by Tuan Haji Ahmad Zakie, he explained about the revolution of women leadership through ages. From the speech I got to know how the roles of women has changed with time. The roles of women in a nation cannot be denied as it emerged in 1940’s as the war effect. Through times, women participation in leadership has evolved and their capabilities are now recognized as more women involved in leadership and corporate.

From the sharing by Mdm Nirmala Doraisamy on the other hands, I learnt about how to be a successful women leader. In becoming one, a woman need to have a solid support system. It is important for us as women to be surrounded by the family and friends who are positive and always encourage us in achieving our dreams. Besides, to be a successful leader in this competitive world, a woman must have skills which include technical skills and soft skills like the ability to influence and negotiate with others. With those skills, it will help us to shine and perform as good as men, or even better than them.

Besides, Mdm Nor Fadilah Binti Mohamed Nizar shared her own experience of being a victim of domestic violence and how she grew stronger and stand again. Being women, there are many challenges that we have to face in balancing our commitments. We must always be brave and focus in whatever we do. She also encourages us to involve in charity programmes as it will be a platform for us not only to help others but to develop ourselves.

In conclusion, I learnt that gender discrimination is something that need to be abolished. The roles of women are considered important as it complements the men. The differences must not be seen as weaknesses but rather be the factors of completing each other in achieving the same goals.

Obviously, acting without knowledge or planning or whatever it is isn't grant you the momentum to turn your life better. Indeed, it could be worse. Hence, being humble, embrace diversity, work as a team, to be a sponge and adapting new ideas, most import thing development the skillset by continuous practice and action.

Hakel Yusuf ZP04014

Based on today's session, Tuan Hj. Ahmad Zakie has shared the revolution and changes of women leadership from the first half of the century up to the modern times. With the progress of women from conventional household caretakers to strong women in the career path. It can be seen that women possesses a more transformational style of leadership as compared to men having a transactional style of leadership. By realising the different styles of leadership between men and women, hopefully a fine balance can be achieved between these two leadership styles that can fit in different parts of the ororganisation structure.

Secondly, Madam Nirmala has shared that in order to succeed we must possess skills that are both technical and soft. But with today’s pressure, we must also have strong moral support from our friends and family. Especially for women, they would need the support from friends and family because they would face many life decisions that can affect their career path such as having a baby and juggling work at the same time. It might me hard for a man to comprehend the struggle, but on the side of the men we should be more supportive and understand their struggle. Because as hard as it is to climb the corporate ladder, it is especially harder for women with today’s biases and stigmas against women. But with the mindset of equality and women having more skills, slowly the balance of workforce is changing with younger women leading the change.

Thirdly, Madam Fadilah shared her stories of being a survivor of domestic violence which led her to set up her own NGO. This is very inspiring as she has taken a horrible ordeal and made something good out of it. It is not easy to get something positive out of something negative and what she did showed courage and bravery. She emphasised about having inner strength and not to be afraid to voice out opinions. She showed us that we can do amazing things when we have courage to do them.

The speakers shared their experience on how back in the days, people of different gender were treated at a different manner. Less are expected from woman compared to man.

Nowadays, we are shifting to a great era where women and men are being treated on equal ground. Genders still hold some sentiment, but as we learn and improve, it is shown that both women and men need empowerment so that each can show how valuables there are on the task given to them.

The speakers also explain how women should voice out in their line of work. This is so that their opinion will be heard and counted for. Increase on participation of women in the leadership and decision making will cast the stigma of gender difference out of the window and give way to women empowerment to take the stage as men do.

The topic has been chosen today never cross in my mind which is Women Leadership in Complex Time. Nowadays, many positions held by women. So the topic for me is every interesting.

Today session many new things I have learnt. From the first speaker, Tuan Haji Zakie, share about as women leader, their problem are they become be like men, act like men and firm like men. He said that it is wrong. He means that just be yourself, as women they must retain their softness, kind, sweet and beauty as a leader, “keep your beauty on duty”. He is also shown the comparison leader between male and female. He conclude male and female leader should work together to survive the constant changing business environment.

The second and last speaker, Madam Nirmala and Madam Fadilah, taught me about how to suit yourself with male leader and to be a great women leader. Madam Nirmala was reminding to all student about as leader we need to give our value add to company. We need to give our opinions, suggestions and voice out it with justifications in order to influence others (shareholders, BOD, managers, CEO, etc) on our ideas to be accepted by them. In addition as leader we need to have relevant skills such as soft skills and technical skill to make correct decision. What Madam Fadilah taught that to be great leader we must have knowledge and followed by action and the result is we become a wonderful leader. She is also promoting individual skill based volunteerism to students to help others to be great.

To conclude, today session was helping students to improve in delivering leadership skills in a correct way and manners.

Prevoiusly, women used to stay at home doing house chores, raising their children and helping their husband in order to ease the their day-to-day. The situation that faced by women has made them transformed from an ordinary women to a someone that able to rock the world.

Tn Hj Zaki has name few character like Carly Fiorina from Hawlet Packard, which is so powerful in his era. Tn Hj Zaki has differentiate leadership style between women and men. Women used a transformational style with flat structure. They focus on relationship between worker, very encouraging, motivational and cooperative. In the communication commonly women seen as given an indirect instruction to their staff.

To be a good leader, women or even men needs to equip themselves with technical skill and soft skill. This skill will help them to analyze problem effectively. The skills must be improved thus they will be able to move forward according to current practices. A leader must be able to influence people, equipped with negotiating skill, voice out their opinion and justify them.

A little empowerment can create a positive environment as young generation wanted protocol to be put away. They wanted their ideas to be listened. However, a minimal supervision is still needed to monitor their strategies and decision which , it is towards company goals.

Lastly, when in crisis, Pn Fadila has highlighted women to think rationally and find solution to their problem. They also need to have a good technical and soft skills to lead the group. Based on the talk ‘Leadership in complex time’ it gives me a reflection of what is the importance to become a great or quality leader. It also should not be any age, gender and race bias in selecting the leader. As if the person has that great quality to becoming a leader regardless of their background, it will help the organization to reach the goals and become successful. The diversity of people, will create different opinions and options of ideas and ways to the solutions. There is a research shown that the organization who applied this practice in their organization is told to be successful more than others. A great leader, will have a good people skill, respect to each other, have understanding about empowerment, to have a good support system, they also need to know that is the current trend and must follow it to retain the successful of the business. The diversity of people will help the organization to understand more about people, their perspective and needs in different angle.

Name: Satesh A/L Kalimuthu
Student ID: ZP03969

The one common thing that I have learned in this talk or experience shared by the three speakers is Women play just as important a role in life as we men do. The reality is that differences between male and female leadership styles can broaden a company’s pool of creativity and innovation. This enhances the success of any company when both men and women are promoted to high-level positions. Whichever gender you are, identify the distinct skills you bring and how to use them to get noticed by potential or current employers. For progression and ultimate career success, an employee will need to have a desirable level of both soft skill and technical skill to carry out the desirable duties the employer demands. I also learned empowerment which is about looking at who you are and becoming more aware of yourself as a unique individual. Empowerment involves developing the confidence and strength to set realistic goals and fulfill your potential. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses and a range of skills that are used in everyday situations, but all too often people remain unaware of, or undervalue, their true abilities.

NURUL HIDAYAH RAMLI
ZP03677

The first topic of the day presented by Tuan Haji Zakie was leaders in complex time. Yes, indeed we are in complex time time. Leaders should always prepare themselves on how to deal and handle complex time. He shared to us on how perception on women changed over the years. Madam Nirmala shared to us her experience on becoming a board members, which we should not only have technical skills but soft skills is a must too. We need to find our value (our relevant skills) to become a board member. Some of the soft skills she highlighted yesterday were, negotiation skill, communication skill, influencing skill, also the skill on how to ask the right questions. It is very important not only for board members but also us leaders, so that we can get the right information to get our job done. “Be vocal, with justification and rationale”, said Madam Nirmala to us. Another key point that she mentioned to us was, the important of having and creating your support system. Also, business owners should identify a way to make their business resilience to risks or any challenges out there.

Puan Fadhila, the fouder of JEIWA is such an inspiration to me. The way she handled the worst crisis happened in her life was so amazing. I remembered a quote she said, “One woman stand for herself, stand for every woman in this world.” Also, in everything we do, we have to understand our subject matter. We must also take control of our life. And to have power, it must come with knowledge and action.

From my point view, it is great opportunity to meet and have sharing session Tn Hj Zakie, Mdm Nirmala and Puan Fadilah as the panels for the leadership in complex times slot.

Based on today’s sharing session, I have gathered a lot of information about women’s involvement and leadership in this new era of digitization and globalization

The key takeaway from Leadership Class which conducted by Dr Nasuha were the difference of leadership style between men and women and women empowerment. Women are equally competent. Nowadays, women are even ahead of men in many socio-economic activities. Women are as talented as men. Tuan Haji Zakie brought an idea that leadership of men and women although differs but given the opportunity if it can complement each other to build new innovations in an organization and nations.

Previously, women were not allowed higher education like men and hence their talents were wasted. But nowadays, they are also allowed to go for higher studies and it encourages women to show their talents which will not only benefit her individually but to the whole world at large. Today, many women are occupying the top position of multinational companies like madam Nirmala.

Women Empowerment leads to decrease in domestic violence explained by Mdm.Fadilah the founder of JEIWA domestic violence (dv) against woman. The talk objective is to empower women to be equipped and passionate about positive thinking, volunteerism and civic minded.

I like to quote this and it is really relevant to every women out there “She is clothed with strength and dignity…”we can do it !
Thank you Tn Hj Zakie, Mdm Nirmala, Mdm Fadilah and Dr. Nasuha for carrying out the best sharing session today.

Part of being a leader, particularly one in the working world, is selecting the right team to fulfil your vision and hit your targets. As no man is an island, an effective leader must gather a team of people who fill gaps in his leadership and who will simultaneously support and challenge him. However, no matter how experienced we are in our fields, humans are fundamentally weak to involve in biases. Meaning, we often think of a certain type of person as better suited for specific jobs largely based on superficial qualities. Men, who make up most of senior management, naturally gravitate towards men when recruiting because they think they understand their own gender and men are often more likely assumed to be natural leaders. So, women are often overlooked in filling key leadership roles due to these unconscious biases. More often though, women are consciously overlooked; a survey of 500 managers found that 40% admitted that they prefer to hire men in their 20s or 30s over women of the same age because they want to avoid the possibility of them taking maternity leave. It is particularly rampant for women to be passed over in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields.

Interesting topic anyway as I stand by a women. From my point of view, gender equality and women’s empowerment are central to the realization of vision. According to Madam Fazilah, passion is important. I completely agree with her. If enthusiasm and pride are present, resilience is easier obstacles are encountered. Pride and confidence are conducive to a positive outlook which is conducive to problem-solving and overcoming difficulty, something that is sure to arise in the process of starting a business or career advancement. Also, the more enthusiasm a person has, the more inclined to work hard on self-improvement increasing an individual's chances of success.

A key takeaway from the session is that empowerment cannot stand by itself. Managers should not let their subordinates to engage in a work task on their own, without any guidance. Empowerment should come with mentorship for a better growth of employees as well as the organisation's success. Also, managers must be responsible in ensuring that good communications are maintained within their organisations. This is particularly important for the manager-subordinates communications. Managers must be willing to listen to their subordinates' concerns and ideas, and must also convey their response on their works appropriately. Not only that, gender discrimination must be eliminated within a workplace. This ensures maximum utilisation of human resource and the increase in motivation among the workforce. Female employees must be given equal opportunities to grow and prove themselves at work. Barriers that stop female employees from progressing in their career must be done away with.

Other than that, I learned the reason why I need to have lifelong learnjng skills as well ad how to be able to manage relevant information in dealing with any kind of situations.

Mohamad Zul Azri
ZP03952

Based on today session it really open my mind to be compromise in work life especially working with different generation gap. Empowerment is one of the key for the great leader to create more leaders in future. Besides, empowerment alone not enought but need to be come along with the mentorship & also recognition. Working in most male dominated industry were let me to ignore on the women leadership. After that session I was more aware on the female leaders function & importance. Men & women can work together, instead of finding differences let find the common things that can make it work. Men & women have different style on the leadership approach but on the bright side the diversity is good on the innovation

Name: Nevitha A/L Gunalan
Student ID: ZP04043

The title of the talk was Women Leadership and I have learned lots of good values. Firstly, leadership is not gender-specific. It is a set of leadership qualities inherent or cultivated in person or persons who develop themselves into great leaders with mass following. Leaders can be either men or women. The qualities that make a good leader don’t vary between men and women. After all, it’s the person, not the gender that determines a leader. And although women are only just catching up to men in terms of leadership roles, their unique experiences and supportive natures make them more than capable of leading the future. Empowerment is the process of enabling or authorizing an individual to think, behave, act, and control work and decision-making about their job in autonomous, independent, self-directed ways. It is the state of feeling self-empowered to take control of your own destiny. Empowerment is feeling in control of your work environment and that you have permission to make decisions in the areas you control and are responsible for in your job.

Key takeaways:

The world we are living in now is facing unprecedented level of challenges, it is volatile, uncertain, complex & ambiguous. Thus leaders will have no choice but to ensure that the right strategies are put in place to ensure sustainability.

Since women makeup 50% of the nation’s population, it is only obvious that government & corporations should put more effort towards attracting and retaining women talents. Women’s role in the organisation has become increasingly important as they are also capable of high achievements and have skills that complement men.

Women aggression in the workplace is not uncommon thus is it is important for the organisation culture to not just promote women empowerment but also provide effective support systems to further encourage their career progression.

Expectation of women changes through the ages, several decades ago women are only deemed as domestic partners. Whereas now, women’s role in the society has changed and has proven that they are equally as capable as men. Based on one of the speakers’ sharing, it is prevalent that when put in a difficult situation, women posseses traits and characteristics to overcome boundaries.

Since organisations now emphasis on gender equality & diversity, it is no longer foreign to have female representatives in the boardroom. All board members (regardless male of female), need to ensure that they add value to the conversation and that they have the right skills (both technical & soft) to contribute towards making decisions for company’s growth.

Based on the given talk, understood that leadership is about empowerment. Without certain Empowerment, employee do not stay with you, and it also shows that a leader doesn't trust an employee. When a leader empower an employee with certain authority, an employee feels the belonging to the company and to a leader. They will work harder and put in their 110% of effort to complete a task. Other than empowerment, a leader must be understanding to their employee's situation, and give some flexibility for certain time for them to get through it.

Women's leadership, there is a research shows that woman hurt woman in an organization to get control over an organization. Man and Woman can work together easily, as their behavior is difference and can tolerate each other. This is also my own experience. As a lady, i work better with Men than ladies. Undeniable, most of the woman to be more hesitant in decision making including myself, they need more details or information to make a decision. there is pro and con, depends on in which industry.

I couldn't agreed more with Ms Fadilah for being a woman. Her confident for being a woman is impressive. Believed yourself, stand for yourself, and live for yourself start from today!

Gone are the days where woman should be engaging in house chores and taking care of children, now woman has create their own value that cannot diminished by anyone.

Vast knowledge about a great leader has given by Tuan Zakie as he is very informative and experienced as a leader of a company. Puan Nirmala has aspired us how women can empower employees and create value to them. Puan Fadilah also teaches us to be able to stand up for ourself as a woman. From the real life example, I understand that woman are no longer a minority in a society, a woman can be anything, a mother, a leader and also contribute to the society.

ZP03810

A key take away from yesterday's panelist that caught my attention was knowledge plus action equals to power.

In todays world, there are many people who either has the knowledge without action or people who love to make a change but without an idea. From the class I have realized that we have to combine this two elements to ensure there is a positive move in the society or in any given situation.

I also came to learn and understand the generation gap between baby boomers and us in the workforce. Haji Zaki explained to a question where I faced a similar scenario where my general manager and I always have an argument on ideas and sometimes I do feel under motivated. He explained on how to overcome the situation and made sure we understand why such situation occurs.

moreover, I also learnt from Puan Fadilah that though she has gone through the worst times in her life, with positive mine, will power and determination to change set right, you can actually make a difference in the society. She being a domestic violence victim herself, came up in her life and founded a NGO in which today helps and changes the mentality of people.

last but not least, I also understand from Madam Normal that if you are giving out an idea, make sure its clear, straight and with proper justification. This would be in regards of being a men or a women in any level.
