First Intifada 1987

September 1 1978

Egypt and Israel sign a treaty of peace between them, and negotiate the placement of Gaza and West Bank, where the majority of the Palestinians in Israel lived. This partnership between Egypt and Israel has lasted over since 1978, and Egypt has become a more important ally as the Israel/Hamas conflict continues.

June 23 2002: Barrier building begins around West Bank

After multiple terrorist attacks in West Bank, Israel starts construction on building walls to protect the Israeli cities from more terrorist attacks. This cuts off the Palestinians in West Bank from Jerusalem, and disrupts many other Palestinian cities. This raises the tensions between the two groups, and creates more conflict.

January 9 2006: Hamas's power grows is Gaza

After Israeli military withdraw from Gaza, they keep control of the borders between Israel and Gaza. With the withdrawl, Hamas gains power and control in Gaza. Hamas then takes over the Gaza strip in 2007.

October 7 2023: Hamas unexpectedly attacks Israel

All of these events and tensions reach a climax on October 7 2023, when Hamas unexpectedly attacks Israel. Hamas is the representative of the Palestinians, and while many did not want the attack, they feel that Israel deserved it after years of aggression. This is a very controversial conflict, that goes back very far, and has been affected by many things. This attack is the climax of the tensions between the two sides, and has influenced people from both sides all around the world.
