It is a big issue that can't be easily forgotten due to the fact that it's always been there. It also ties a knot with slavery. Slavery was a big thing back then, especially when it had started in 1619. The U.S has overcome the act of slavery, but racism is still an ongoing situation. For example, in the novel, "The Song of Solomon", it is set in between the time of the 1930s-1960s where it alludes to the milestones of black culture. According to Milkman's father, macon dead he values the cost of money. This would relate to a fact of racism because, in the book black people are seen as "poor". As of for Macon Dead, he wants all the money in world because in that case he feels free.He teaches his son, Milkman that money is the most important because that's the only way you'll have the freedom. He couldn't escape the fact of living imprisoned by a white family. That is because he's still a black man. The life that a character goes through, gives it a connection to the rader that makes them in awe. Racism is shown differently because some blacks would wanna live like a white person, and not appreciate the way their lives are.
