It is always changing and there is always something new. I know so many people who have started a 3 year IT degree and by the time they finish it, the technologies they learnt are already old news. I feel like I finally start to master something, but then something new and game changing comes out that means I have whole new set of skills to learn. How to I teach kids who are growing up in this world? Whatever technologies they learn now, are likely be redundant by they graduate. I mostly teach Junior Information Technology, (Year 9 Business and Technology Studies and Year 10 Digital Technologies - Introduction to IPT). It has been a while since I taught Senior IPT.
I know basic coding (HTML, Scratch and Basic SQL).
I feel that each year I slowly get behind in New Technologies and struggle to catch up and learn new programs, products and coding formats.

I am about to go on Maternity Leave to have my second child (due 29th November) and felt that if I didn't do this course I would be even further behind with current digital technologies. Most of the coding I studied at university is now redundant.

I find it hard at a school that doesn't support Year 7 and 8 ICT in the realm of programming. As one of two IT teachers at my school we have no access to those students. Year 9 Business and Technology Studies is the only opportunity our students have to learn code (and it's an elective). Though I currently teach across a P-6 primary school, I anticipate teaching Prep next year. I have no background in teaching any area of technology though have enjoyed using an interactive white board and ipads in the classroom. I do believe that our primary students need to be better digitally equipped and that I need to be better equipped to support their digital learning journey. I am a HPE & Biology Teacher (fairly removed from Digital Technologies), however I have an interest in this area, and I see it as a subject of the future and I am keen to get in early and develop whatever level of knowledge I can. I have a strong personal interest in digital technologies and try an incorporate the use and teaching of it in my lessons whatever the subject.
Raising two boys with Aspergers who have a strong interest in ALL technology (along with their little sister) has opened up my eyes to all of the possibilities this wonderful (and at times frustrating!) thing we call technology can do for us.

Currently at 2 state primary schools. At one just getting the students up to speed with ICT: logging on etc basic ICT skills.Many of them have no home access to devices. Have also been using BeeBots with the students for Geography, Maths and Literacy.

For 16 of those years, I was an ICT Coordinator. My main motivation for moving to high school was to teach more ICT. My biggest hurdle now is that I am mainly self taught, with no paper to back up my knowledge. My passion for IT means I am constantly playing with new programs and toys. It is hard to keep up with them all though. I have tried many different ways of utilising IT within my classrooms for 20 years. The more I learn, the more I find out there to learn. My husband works in the computer department at QUT, so it has been an interest we have been able to share and discover together for a long time. To sum it up, after 28 years I am still as passionate about my job as I was the day I started. The hesitation to teach digitech has held back our country and I'm glad that we are all being corralled into applying ourselves to something new. Teacher values in schools are marred by being the leader of a class, particularly when some students have galloped ahead in their pursuit of learning. I see some issues in letting go of the leader-follower attitude and instead corralling these young minds into implementing fresh ideas.
