Miscommunication in cross cultural exchanges and tips for cross cultural communication were the topics for today's session. It's very important to understand and reflect about it since we as a European school and individuals communicate with different nationalities, religions, gender, cultures, history backgrounds, etc.
Collaborative work will be successful if we take this topic into account.

Putting the stereotypes and preconceptions aside is not an easy matter. It is though necessary, in order to achieve an effective communication in our multi cultural world. Many difficulties exist in cross cultural communication. Our perspective -political and social- for the world we live in is decisive for the way we handle with these difficulties.

Communicating with someone demands a lot of effort. Different persons from different countries and cultures will have different view points that influence the way they decode the message.

Today we reflected about miscommunication in cross cultural exchanges. In these situations we feel the cultural barriers but we can make an effort to reduce these differences. We talked about some tips to help us to improve our cross cultural communication skills.
We continued the mosaic work with success.

The eight-day training course in communication by Jurgita gave us the skills that we needed, to come closer with our collegues and found the ways to communicate better and work in a project that Kostas prepared for us!

The essential element for effective communication in cross cultural exchanges  is to know very well the source of our personal perceptions. Adding some tips and developing listening skills will ensure that we have received the real meaning.

It is really difficult if not almost impossible to overcome our stereotypes and preconceptions of the "different". Becoming aware of them is the first step to open up to other people culture.

In today's session, I learned that we must think about how to accept multiculturalism these days. Normally, when we come into contact with someone from another culture, we tend to behave differently. Cultural differences can be an obstacle to effective communication. These obstacles (language, habits, customs, food, religion and political ideals) can create very strong barriers in our society. We all have to accept and adapt to different cultures so that there can be strong interconnection, socialization and communication. If we don't accept other cultures, there can be discrimination and confrontations. We have to reduce these cultural barriers so that people can acquire their skills in the most varied areas. In the Mosaic session, we were finishing the work carried out on the round table, (gluing the mosaic, putting putty and cleaning). We continue to work as a team on the "Madeira Island" mosaic project (gluing the tiles and covering with putty). I am participating in this creation with great enthusiasm and pleasure.

Today I learned... about the processes of communication between individuals of different cultures. Culture is understood in different ways and encompasses different cultures such as: Portuguese culture, Lithuanian culture, Greek culture, ways of working, age, ethnicity, gender...
We looked at how people from different cultures communicate with each other. We cover some topics about difficulties/barriers in communication, as well as the processes to minimize them.
In today's practical part, we continue to work and learn techniques for applying the putty that surrounds the spaces between the mosaic pieces.

Today I learned…

Today we talked about Cross Cultural Communication between people who have different cultures, countries... we were looking at some examples of Cross Cultural Communication between people from Portugal, Lithuania and Greece, of the different nationalities of the course participants.

Then we were talking about the concept Cross Cultural Communication refers to the way people from different cultures communicate with each other.

In our daily lives, we are often confronted and challenged to communicate with people from different cultures... so Cross Cultural Communication can help us deal with the challenges of communicating with individuals from other cultures.

Then we were reviewing a set of miscommunication in cross cultural exchanges, in order to avoid certain confrontations in our daily lives. We've also reviewed some tips for cross-cultural communication to run effectively.

In the afternoon we were finishing our mosaic piece, made individually and which will form an integral part of the collective piece. We did the last finishing tasks, such as gluing the pieces, grouting and cleaning. The fine result is looking great.

Today I learned that we must increasingly accept multiculturalism in our society. Cultural barriers may be an impediment to establishing good communication and acceptance. If we do not accept cultural differences, there may be discrimination between people, which will make it difficult to learn the skills of each one. We also learned some guidelines to reduce these cultural barriers. In the afternoon session, we continued the work on the round table mosaics and the Madeira Island teamwork. We learn finishing techniques (cement putty, cleaning) of the mosaic. This activity is exceeding my expectations.
