To create my tessellations I took a photo and cropped out that part that I thought would work best. After that I went into photoshop and measured each photo so that it would fit on the outline. When finished placing one I would duplicate the layer and flip either horizontally or vertically and place right next to the photo before. What I liked about this is how each one looks so different and cool and some of them make a face. My favorite is Tessellation 4. I don't think I struggled with anything I found this easy.
