         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Missouri Compromise of 1820, is when they admitted Missouri to the Union of slave states. They evened it out by adding Maine as a free state, this was so they can maintain the balance between the two. They also created an invisable line stating that north of the line slavery was to be banned.</div>]]></description>

An amendment called the Wilmot Proviso stated that slavery and involuntary servitude should ever exxist in any part of of Mexico that America gained in the war. Many southerners opposed the amendment because they stronly believe that they shouldn't say where they can take "their property."</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>For three years congress couldn't decide on slavery in the new territory that they had gained. Southerners wanted slavery, but Northerners didn't. In order to create a compromise Southerners proposed a bill that north of the line that leads to the Pacific no slavery, South gets slavery. However it was rejected by congress in the north. California wanted to be a free state. Which ended in a deadlock yet again.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Many Northerners didn't want to enforce and follow through, while Southerners felt that the act wasn't doing enough. When a runaway slave was captured they had no legal rights, so this caused them to escape to Canada. Many decided to stand and fight. Those who helped had the risk of being jailed themselves. </div>]]></description>
