Jem makes her spit it out when he finds out, fearing it might be poisoned.

A few days later, Scout and Jem find a small jewelry box in the same knothole.

Inside are two shiny Indian-head pennies.

They decide to keep them and wonder who is leaving these items.

School ends, and Dill returns to Maycomb for the summer.

The three friends (Scout, Jem, and Dill) are happy to be together again.

The kids start playing a game where they act out scenes about Boo Radley, making up scary stories about him.

Scout feels nervous about it, worried Atticus might find out or that Boo might see them.

This chapter contains the strong themes of gender inequality and childhood innocence as Jem keeps on telling scout to stop acting like a girl and how he will not include her in his games if she didn't do so. This briefly explains the kind of environment jem grew up in. And the way scout believes that she needs to act like a boy to fit in and feels scared of Atticus and Boo Radley finding out about the game made up by Jem displays her innocence.
