When we arrived at the Universities, the rooms were set up with hospitality in mind. In the first, our speaker had set up coffee, tea, and cookies for us. In the second, fresh fruit and water were available.

You couldn't really go anywhere without passing by a coffee shop; there were very few chains, but they were all busy! Most had seating available and cute mugs. A lot of the seating was outside, especially since it was so nice while were there.

When we spoke to Danish people about Denmark, some of the answers we got were shocking. For example, one mentioned how it was such a safe city that she felt no fear walking alone at 2 AM. This is because there is a culture of trust and respect.

Throughout the city, there were green spaces worked in EVERYWHERE. A park in between buildings. A rooftop garden (or three). The buildings and infrastructure was built with sustainability and climate change in mind. There were many places where you could go for a swim, access boats, or even kayak for free -- in exchange for cleaning garbage up on your way. The entire city was built to be accessible for bikes, with designated lanes, parking, and even places for them on public transport.

From our observations and conversations, we noticed that Denmark appeared to have a low homeless population. This seems to be attributed to the strong social welfare programs. While the Danes certainly expressed how expensive it is (half their salary in taxes!) it appears to pay off in how their city and people are cared for.

Overall, the government seemed to have well-liked monarchs, generally happy population, and a democratic governmental system. Not only that, but the prisons work towards reforming rather than just punishing. Finally, students are taught to be civic minded and how to be citizens of their country.
