It was ruled that the prayer was  unconstitutional as it violates the first amendment. Tinker vs. Demoins was a case in which a group of students got in trouble for wearing black bands to protest a war, and ultimately it was ruled that this was a form of expression, therefore it was unconstitutional not to allow the bands. Wisconsin vs. Yoder was a case in which compulsory school was questioned on the grounds of religion. It was ruled that it is allowed to not go to school if it goes against one's religion. All of these cases demonstrate that the government puts civil liberties, and rights, over almost everything.

It was debated whether spreading enemy propaganda should be covered by free speech, and it was ruled that it should not. New York Times vs. United States was a case in which the United States attempted to prohibit the posting of Pentagon papers, as they had been leaked to the press. As there was no great justification for doing so, the papers were printed anyway.

Chicago was a case in which there was an attempt to make it illegal to own guns, however it was struck down because it was ruled that the Second Amendment protected the people's right to bear arms. Gideon vs. Wainwright was a case in which a man was not given proper representation in court, so he had to represent himself. Naturally, he did poorly and was sentenced to years in prison over petty theft. He studied law, and found that he was denied proper representation. He messaged the Supreme Court, and they heard the case. The court ruled that no matter the circumstance, everyone is entitled to a proper representation.
