"Why Is Freedom of Speech an Important Right? When, if Ever, Can It Be Limited?"
Source: The New York Times, September 12, 2018.
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/12/learning/why-is-freedom-of-speech-an-important-right-when-if-ever-can-it-be-limited.html

The freedom of speech allows the people in the United States to express their opinions or feelings without being restrained from the government, this amendment does include various restrictions such as any illegal activity that can harm an individual. In the article, the author includes various examples in the restrictions and limitations found in the freedom of speech. The article further explains that it quite difficult to differentiate the forms of speech that should and should not be protected by this right. Along with this right, comes along quite the controversy because it is debated on whether the government draws reasonable limits on the freedom of speech. In the case of Brandenburg v. Ohio, it is explained that the the racist commentary by Ku Klux Klan is protected by the freedom of speech because although it is speech that it quite provocative and offensive towards many individuals, it doesn't t necessarily result in any form of violence. Cases such as this one can cause many altercations and controversy because many people argue that the language used by the KKK is harmful and degrades the mental health of the race the group targets. The Supreme Court determines that speech that are threatening, fighting words, and misleading advertisements are not protected by the freedom of speech. An example being that a person cannot falsely yell "bomb" or "fire" in public settings because in result of these words, there is a high chance that someone can be harmed. #whatshouldthefreedomofspeechprotect #controversialcontstitutionalright

Amendment 1- Freedom of Religion

'"Coaches Warned Not to Pray With High School Football Team"
Source: Fox News, November 4, 2017".
https://insider.foxnews.com/2017/11/04/coaches-warned-not-pray-high-school-football-team
In the freedom of religion it explains that an individual has the right to practice the religion of their choice, this right allows for diversity within believes and faiths amongst individuals. In the freedom of religion there is a the Free Exercise Clause in which the government must protect the right for people to practice their religious beliefs as they wish. An example being that in public schools, if a student must recite prayers they are permissible and protected by the first amendment. Along with the Free Exercise Clause there is also an Establishment Clause in which government cannot establish a definite religion in the United States and the separation of church and state in which Congress cannot a law based on a religion. An example being that it prohibits religion to be instituted or promoted in public schools, but it can be taught through classes such as history. Therefore in many occasions it is not permissible for a public state school to endorse a certain form of religion. In the article '"Coaches Warned Not to Pray With High School Football Team", it is explained that football coach in a Georgia high school is endorsing a religion by praying with his players. The parents of the children claim that they see no problem with exercising their religion and that they stand behind the coach praying alongside their children, while some individuals argue that by praying he is breaking the Establishment Clause. As a result, the coach can no longer pray with the team, the players are still allowed to pray, but just not with their coach. #parentssupportcoach #religionprohibitions
