Strep Throat is a bacterial infection caused by the bacteria group A streptococcus , also called Streptococcus pyogenes.  It is a gram-positive, aerotolerant bacterium in the genus streptococcus. These bacteria are extracellular, and made up of non-motile and non-sporing cocci. This bacteria is found in the nose and throat. You can contract it from person to person contact.
