Decorative Map of FEU

The decorative map of FEU, created in 1951 by National Artist Cesar Legaspi using rubber stamp art, highlights its location in the heart of Manila’s University Belt. The university is located on a street formerly named after Miguel Morayta, professor to Rizal, and supporter of the Propaganda Movement, now named after FEU founder Nicanor Reyes, the campus is “bookended” by two historic roads, Azcarraga (now Claro M. Recto) and España Boulevard, as well as the proximate University of Santo Tomas, it describes a location of prestige in academia. The map shows the position of the university buildings and the layout of the campus, as well as portraits of Nicanor Reyes, Teodoro Evangelista, and Nicanor Reyes Jr. who were instrumental leaders in the development of the institution as a whole.

The map is more than merely a guide, it represents FEU's identity at the heart of the scholarly life of Manila. It reminds us that our campus is on a site in history that was shaped by leaders of the nation, educators, and artists. As an FEU student, it is empowering to know that every inch we walk in Morayta (Nicanor Reyes St.) as what fundamentally connects us to education, leadership, and cultural heritage.

Dark, Stratus

The artwork, "Dark, Stratus" by Soler Santos is notable for its use of a grid that changes how the painting is viewed. By dividing the landscape into small squares, the artist allows the viewer to focus on the details rather than just the whole scene. The painting represents dusk, a time of day suggested by the dark and fading tones in the sky. The contrast of light and shadow in the piece highlights the fleeting quality of light, reminding us that it is never permanent. This technique also pushes the landscape into the background, while each square creates an almost abstract form that encourages deeper analysis of the work. Instead of seeing only a horizon or forest, the viewer becomes more aware of the fragments and textures within the piece. In this way, Santos not only depicts a natural scene but also presents a new way of interpreting art through

fragmentation.

This painting emphasizes how often we overlook small details when focusing on the bigger picture. The little squares serve as a reminder that every small detail contributes to the whole, highlighting that small moments in life matter too, even if we do not notice them right away. Overall, the artwork reflects that life is not always perfect, but every piece comes together to form a story.

The painting "Our Malayan Heritage" by Simon B. Saulog shows what life was like in the Philippines a long time ago, before other countries took over. He uses bright colors to show how people lived, what they did every day, and their culture. The painting helps us remember the past. It shows that people back then worked hard, stayed strong, and helped each other. This artwork shows how life was before things changed.

This painting shows why it is significant to know about our past. Our ancestors did not have advanced tools, but they worked hard and helped each other. The painting emphasizes that our culture is strong and creative. Art like this serves as a reminder on how easily history can be forgotten. Saulog’s painting expresses that we should not just remember the past, but also spread its story
