Because of his photographic memory, he reads the Bible once, writes the test and passes it. Then he was taken to his room.

They hurt him, but in such a way that you wouldn't see it the next day. When he's alone, Connor thinks about his childhood or the past. He remembers the trip to the Colorado River with his father or the time he spent with Sabrina. Connor also remembers an argument between his father and him. They discussed that Connor didn't go to school regularly. Connor thought it was superfluous to go to class regularly, because he always writes an A in every test anyway.

Plot:Connor and nine other boys are outside to wash and dry clothes. When Adam fought with two other boys, they were taken away by Joe and two other guards. Connor is alone with other guys for the first time. Pauly goes to Connor and tells him that he wants to break out of Lake Harmony and asks if he wants to come with him. Connor is not sure because he doesn’t know if it is a trap set by Joe. He therefore does not give him a clear answer. When the guards came back and saw Pauly talking, the conversation was interrupted and Pauly was “punished”. Connor was later stopped by Joe when he went to eat. Joe takes out gum and threw the paper on the floor. Connor has to pick it up and give it to him. He had to repeat this very often. When Connor tried to pick up the paper without having received the order, Joe kicked him in the face. Connor got nosebleeds and the blood drips on the floor. When the chewing gum paper was covered in blood and Connor wanted to give it to Joe, he steps back. Connor felt power for a moment. But then he realise that this was expected of him and Connor stops from holding the bloody paper in front of Joe and asks if he should wipe off the puddle of blood.

The topic in the circle is Sarah because she has been in Lake Harmony for two and a half years and is still level one. Robert tries to "offend" her, but Sarah replies that he is only almost level four because he does everything Joe tells him to do.

Joe provoked Mega, whereupon she knocked him out. When you look for her, you find her wrapped on the floor in a blanket that was too glued.

Plot: Connor and sarah meet by letter in the infirmary. Connor has a headache and is sent to the infirmary by the teacher. Sarah is waiting for him there. The supervisor and at the same time the "doctor" Ted is outside to smoke. Meanwhile Sarah tells why she is in Lake Harmony. Her father is a Mormon elder and apostle. She doesn't believe in it and when her father didn't know what to do next, he sent Sarah to Lake Harmony. Sarah says that if Connor found out that he wasn't getting out of here, it would be too late for Pauly and her. That's why he should break out with them. At lunch, Adam again requests that Connor give him his food. While Adam wants to make it clear to him, he pulls out a piece of paper. This is one of the pieces of paper Connor wrote with Sarah. When Connor does not respond, Adam addresses Joe. This comparison the note with Connors handwriting. Since Connor wrote the notes with the left, nothing stands out. When Connor was at the Circle. Due to the fact that he is level two, he was allowed to speak without being addressed. Connor can speak of everything that disturbs him. Since Lake Harmony is not allowed to talk badly Connor was sent to TI again.

After Connor's father left, Joe took him to the windowless room where Connor was first when he was taken to Lake Harmony.

Later Mr. Sparks asks if Connor wants to join the basketball team. Actually you are only allowed to go to the gym from level four, but Mr Sparks makes an exception because they still need a teammate. He tells Connor after the game that he shouldn't change. Mr Sparks would like to tell him more but he doesn't want to lose your job because he needs the money. In the evening in the bathroom, Adam and “his Gestapo” kick and beat Connor. Shortly before Connor passes out, he hears Joe tell them to stop.

Connor is picked up by Ron after four days and taken to the dining hall. There Adam smiles at him and makes it clear that he would do it again. When Joe takes her to her bedroom. Deliberately stumbles Pauly so that a few fall over. When Joe untangles the bunch of children, Pauly runs to the breaker panel to turn off the power. Joe notices it and wants to run to stop him. Connor has to decide whether to stop Joe and help Sarah and Pauly or do nothing.

After seeing that everyone trying to get to the exit is being pushed away, Connor, Sarah and Pauly sneak up to the exit that was cleared for the fire trucks. Suddenly they realise that Joe is behind them. When he caches Sarah, Connor overwhelmed and pushes him on the floor. They tie him up with tape and tap his mouth. They are now about five miles from Lake Harmony away and want to hitchhike to Canada. Sarah, Connor and Pauly are let into the car by a man. He asks why they want to go to Canada. They lie to him and say they are on the way to Canada because of a band. The man suddenly mentions Lake Harmony.

When they are on the boat, he hears sirens. It is the police.

This time, no care is taken to ensure that there are no traces. After being badly damaged, Connor crawls after Joe in the dining hall on his hands and feet. There he is put on display. Mr Z says that everyone is graded a level. That's why Connor is beaten and attacked by many in the following days. A few days later, when Joe takes everyone to the dorm, he goes outside with Connor and chains him up.

Plot: Connor is lying on the cold floor. After a few hours, Joe comes to him. He orders Connor to get up, but when he tries, Joe hits him so that Connor is on the floor. This does Joe a few times, when he goes to a tree and tears off a branch and hits him with it. Connor crawls back to TI. This time he has to kneel in front of Adam instead of lying down. Adam is allowed to beat Connor, under the supervision of Mr Gold, so that he will be level six again. When Adam left, Mr. Sparks brought him food. Connor is allowed to lie down but when Adam comes back, Connor has to kneel down again because Adam is afraid of getting into trouble.

Plot: Time has passed. Connor is now level four and has become the one who absolutely wants to reach the next level. He started to believe Joe's words. Connor was asked by Jos to write a text in which we should write about the outbreak. He writes that he regrets his actions. Connor has now become an inconspicuous child. Adam and no one else hits him anymore. Joe likes the text and is now able to bring the “family” back. Just before he wants to go, a boy named Jason arrives and says that Connor should follow Mr Z's orders. Connor does this. His mother, his father Rebecca and a man are waiting in the office. When Connor was back in Lake Harmony, Rebecca told Connor's parents everything, such as that he saved her life and that he fled. In the beginning, the parents didn't want to believe it until Sarah explained the circumstances in Lake Harmony to them. When Connor enters the room, his mother hugs him tightly. A man is standing next to Rebecca. This man asks Connor if he was beaten. Mister Z looks at Connor angrily and warningly. When his mother says that he shouldn't pay attention to the man. He replies with "Yes, sir, they did. But I deserved it, sir". In the end Connor became the person he never wanted to be.
