Much of the videos are of the PowerPoint that drives the information, but I also use screen capture demos of myself using our software, so that learners can see the product in action. These videos are posted to our learning management system (LMS) from Cornerstone.

To create our eLearnings for our LMS, we use Captivate software. This software allows me to build interactivity into the lessons, even creating demos and quizzing features. It's not the easiest software to use because there is so much that can be done with it, but I'm continually learning. (Check out Lynda.com for lessons on this software and many others. www.nau.edu/lynda to create a free account through NAU.)

When software source code changes, GitHub has a "tracking changes" feature, similar to the one in Microsoft Word. On GitHub, the lines of text or code that are added and subtracted are automatically highlighted for easy code review.
Well, this feature can also be used to post and track the changes to reports, protocols, ideas, hypothesis, and other documents brainstormed in class. Also, it provides parents an opportunity to keep track of progress over time, as the snapshots of each change can be viewed on a history timeline.

The common technology activities that I include in my lesson plans would depend on the type of standard that I am teaching to. It also depends on the grade level, the instructional programs, and the type of technology that is available to the students. The standards that I normally teach to would be the Common Core reading, math, language arts, writing, speaking, listening, social studies, and science content areas. Not to mention the Dine Navajo language and culture standards. So far from my experience I have utilized the free interactive resources including lessons and games from Promethean Planet. There are numerous resources available to choose from. One of the fun and engaging games that students enjoy playing is vocabulary basketball. It gives students a chance to learn the meaning of their vocabulary words and to play against their peers. I also used the free app math games for kids, which gives students a chance to practice their 4 basic operations for math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). I used cool math games as well to help them practice their math skills. I used the free app book creator in my class. Students were able to create their own books mainly to introduce themselves to their peers and learn each other’s Navajo clans. Currently, I am using the think central website to access my Journey’s reading and Math Expressions math program resources. Students are able to sign into their own accounts to take assigned reading and math assessments as well as access the student learning resources that align with the lessons being taught. I also utilize the smart interactive lessons, videos, and games within these programs. My students use Microsoft office, especially Microsoft word and Microsoft power-point to publish their writing and to create presentations.

I've used website builders like moonfruit.com to create class websites that are accessible via smartphone. This is great for students who don't have computer access.

I recommend https://quizlet.com/ as a study tool. Students create their own flashcards or access yours via computer or smartphone app. The software reads the flashcards aloud and offers memorization games. It's a great way for busy adult students to take advantage of idle moments in their day to get some studying done.

Google Docs is great for writing classes that involve the creation of various drafts. It's easy for the instructor to add comments and track all the changes students make to the document as they improve their drafts over time.

Google Voice is a way to easily collect ELL students' speaking homework. Google Voice gives you a number, which you share with students. Students call the number, it records their speaking exercise and then emails you the recording and a transcription.

Called a “homework help site with a social networking”, Piazza is a free mobile app that links to a wiki-style discussion board forum, established for a specific class by an instructor. Our current LMS is not smart-phone friendly; navigation difficult, options are missing, and no spell checker, are just a few of many issues. Many of our younger students are heavy smart phone users, so the current situation is not ideal. Our instructional technology department is now looking at Piazza as an additional education support tool.

Piazza appears to have many good features. For example, there is a real-time Q & A, allowing anyone to ask and answer questions (instructors can monitor discussions). The wiki-style format inspires collaboration between students. With students teaching students, conversations on Piazza can continue long after faculty office hours are over. Instructors can post class announcements, run student participation statistics, set up work groups, and embed multimedia. It even has a spellchecker andLaTeX editor for formulas and equations!

So far it looks pretty good but looking at online reviews, common complaints are it crashes frequently. Has anyone ever used this app? If so, what are your thoughts?

My students also had to use this for projects on their own as well-- one of my favorites was our Greek mythology project while studying The Odyssey! I also showed clips from Youtube almost every day to supplement their learning.

In terms of cell phone compatible platforms, I LOVE Remind.com! I was able to send out bulletins to all students who joined the group using a class code. I reminded them about important due dates, assignment requirements, and extra tips for completing their work. elective business class, I have a diversified group of student grades 6-8 that
enjoy and respond positively to all the technology activities that I incorporate
into my lecture.

I use several types of
technological tools including:

Edmodo - is one of the most comprehensive tools that I use. It allows me to post information on the next lecture,
notes to study for a test, and it lets me create online quizzes.

Prezi – is wonderful to use to animate a lesson through an
interactive presentation. It has given
me the option of choosing a template and inserting pictures and videos to tailor
to the lesson.

Kahoots – allows students to have fun with friendly completion,
while they are learning through a live online quiz. Students are more engaged with the lesson
when they foresee a Kahoots educational game will follow the lesson.

Google docs – I use this as a classroom management tool, I project
my lesson and the agenda on the screen. I
am able to edit the agenda if I need to go live and I usually have a set time
limit projected on the screen on each activity we complete in class.

Online stop watch – another tool that I use that has been successful is
an online stop watch that alerts students to settle down and focus on the instructions
for the day. I project a stop watch on
the screen and time how long it takes for them to settle down. Students love to participate in a competitive
environment, they compete with other periods to see who takes the least amount
of time to quietly be seated and ready for the lesson.

online communication tools that are being used in the classroom to communicate
and collaborate. Online forums such as
bulletin boards, discussion groups and discussion boards. They help promote student critical thinking
and knowledge construction. Participants are given time to research prior to
posting and replying. Teachers may
require students to participate for a grade, involve learning teams, and relate
the discussion to the course objectives.
Students enjoy creating avatars to represents their personal
interests.

There are electronic
whiteboards that allow users to draw, write and collaborate.

Skype is a phenomenal
tool that can be used in the classroom to create virtual field trips, skype
lessons around the world, plan lessons with another classroom, and have guest
speakers. This tool will provide students
with the competitive edge that they will need when they enter the workforce.

In my third grade classroom, we have used code.org to learn and practice basic computer science skills using a Minecraft and other popular themes.
I really enjoy participating in the Kahoots app with my peers. Its a great way to get instant feedback and buy-in from participants. It requires planning on the part of the teacher to prepare each quiz with the student and deisred outcome in mind. As the facilitator, you also have to consider discussion time for each questions, as engagement of topic matter can take you down a tangent (thats a good thing when students are engaged). Its also a tool to discover gaps in student understanding, so reflection is necessary after using this app.
