https://padlet.com/mirrahcollard/ceg4hh2j8d9y1v29 Throughout the short but very informative course of my English class I have learned so much about the FNMI community and how much the Canadian Government has made them suffer for many years. In my mixtape I want to show you their stories and history, not the ones you see in cartoons or the things people have told you they heard, but the truth. In this mixtape I will focus on the trauma caused by residential schools, and the impact it had on the children and generations before them. I will be showing you through a film called; we were children were we learn about the traumatic times children faced attending residential schools, how they were forcefully taken from their home to be stripped of their culture and language, the abused; physical and sexual, and how they were punished for practicing traditions. I will also be showing you an artist named; Freddy Taylor that uses art as healing from the trauma of residential schools, and art called; “Indian Residential School, Leaving the Shallow Graves and Going Home” that is based on the trauma to express and share what was going on in residential schools and how children were found at the end. Plus a poem called; “Monster” used to express one's feelings and hatred towards residential schools and the impact these schools had on the children's lives with the trauma that followed them into the present and future. Finally a book called “I am Not a Number” based on a true story of someone's experience at residential schools, and the pain they suffered throughout the years and the trauma they were left with in the end. I hope by the time you have finished listening to my mixtape I have inspired you to share the truth about the indigenous community helping other understand their past doing so understanding why they need our help fighting for human right and freedom.
