How do you define family, and how have you come into that understanding? In other words, what does family mean to you--and why? What makes for a family? What relationship, if any, is there between marriage and family today?

I define family as people who support you and care for you no matter what. Family doesn't always necessarily have to be considered "blood." I have come to this understanding because I have met so many people including my biological family who are just family to me. They've shown me what it truly means to care of someone and to cherish everything that they do for you. What makes up for a family are people who love and care for you. The relationship between marriage and family today is that marriages are usually what creates a family. "Marriage is a legally recognized social contract between two people, traditionally based on a sexual relationship and implying a permanence of the union."

To me, family is people who will always support and care for you through positive and negative times. Family should be people who are willing to go extra mile for you without having to second think. I have came to this understanding of family through what I have observed in my personal life. My mom always supports her sisters and brothers no matter the situation or cause. I'v watched how my mom always manages to fix issues or even assist in something that her family needs without having to ask why she has to do that. Family is something I hold really close to me and it will always be special to me. What makes a family would be having people who are willing to support, care and love you for who you are. The relationship between marriage and family would be maybe that marriage is what creates a family.

I define Family as people who care and support you. These people know everything about you and care for you and your wellbeing. Family doesn't necessarily have to be people that are related by blood and could just be individuals that you share a close bond with. People can choose who to call family since often times they feel that their "blood" family does not support or care for them enough. They might feel alienated by these "family" members and choose to not be associated with them anymore. In today's society Family and marriage are believed to come as a pair. Many people believe that in order to create/have a family one must marry and therefore have god's blessing to have kids. Others believe that having a family is to have a mother, a father and children. This however is not true, family doesn't have to be tied to marriage since in reality anyone can be your family, all thats needed is a strong emotional connection thats mutually felt between two or even several individuals.

To me family can be people who are my blood since they are people I've been with since little and love but also family can be people who are always going to be there for me support me no matter what and people who I choose to be close with and trust. But family can also be your friends who are close to you like I have friends who are like my family because they've been there for me and we've been together for so long I call them my family. In todays society when it comes to marriage and relationships it's like a contract between a male and a female to be together and have a family or to also build a family to call your own.

Family to me is someone who is biologically related to you or who is someone who you can trust with your life. Family members who are not related to me are friends and older people whom I trust and have known for a long time and have built a great relationship with. Family means a lot to me. At the end of the day all you have is your family now if your family is toxic then I will say move out because that is draining. Most family relationships involve arguing with one another but making up in a couple of hours, and having family time(watching movies, playing video games, game night, etc). I don't know much about marriage because my dad is only married to my stepmom but I guess if you are married it's because you're in love, want to be brought to another country, and money-wise.

I define family as the people I was born to and the ones who took care of me and my siblings since our birth, I came to this understanding from a very young age because it is what makes sense one family should be their biological family regarding what the situation could be your biological family is your true family. Some might argue that family can also be friends and even other people who are not your biological family which is a good point but this is related to feelings, it is ok to feel comfortable with other people and even see them as your family however they will never be your true family because your only tie between them is your feelings but your biological family is your true family.

I define family as a sign of sincere love that always supports and cares for you. I also believe that there are people who become your family, we meet people who give us their trust and we receive a type of love that feels like your family. The people who make a place for you within their family by making you part of it. Even people who are not part of your family can teach you what a family should be like. I feel grateful for the support of my family and the love I receive from the people who have made me part of their family without being one, making me feel at home.

In my definition, family is the people who love and care for you. Throughout the years, my family has always been there for me. Even though we might not agree on everything, we still support each other if we can. Family means a big part of my life as they are the people I am surrounded with and interact with the most. Family doesn't necessarily have to be your biological family but can consist of people who you deem as such. You just need people who you know will stick by you and can admit when you are wrong. I think there is not a relationship between marriage or family as marriage isn't a definite answer to family.

I define family as the the people who are biologically related to me. They are the people who support me, love me and inspire me. However i'am aware that family can also not be blood. I also have brothers who are not biologically my brothers, but they also fit the description of what I define as family. I believe the relationship between marriage and family is that, marriage is usually the foundation for a family, its where a family seed is planted and eventually grows. (Not in a literal way)

Family to me is defined as someone who I have a deep bond or connection with, where I can rely on them with anything and everything. I learned that the family construct we know of is a social norm, it's what we picture the ideal family to be; mother and father with however many children. It's what we're taught but I feel now that it doesn't have to be confined to just that. Family to me is important that it is blood because that's how I grew up, blood is blood. Marriage and family have a connection to it, but it's not like one will fall without the other.

Family is the people that are brought to you in life who you simultaneously receive support from, and give support to you. Their are those family members that are genetically related to you, then there are those members that you meet on your path through life. At times, family members may not always agree with one another which does not numb the fact that they are your family. This is because it is when family agrees on something and acts on this agreement things can be accomplished. And this belief of family success is what keeps the bond of family strong.

The way I would define family is the people who support you, love, and care for you. This goes for not just people biologically related to you but for any people who express the same sort of feelings towards you. As long as you and the person share a strong bond, it is up to you to consider them as family or not. The relationship between marriage and family is synonymous in a way. To create a family yourself, society commonly believes that you must get married before doing so.
