- Ms. Cabrera will test the Classroom Notebook on 5th period with student uploads to determine if she will use it with her other classes.

2nd, 3rd, 4th and 7th periods - Mr. Thomas

Observed 2nd and 3rd periods - Interviewed as many students as possible at each station
- Students demonstrated how to code in 3 unique settings: Code.org, Minecraft coding and Scratch
- Students explained how they are using a collaborative Word document to understand the research required.
- Students demonstrated the steps of the engineering process to build a robot and a circuit to power a sound device
Met during lunch to suggest a One Note Classroom Notebook for organization of the student files and evidence.

Ms. Cabrera and I experimented with the power of the Classroom Notebook we created last time.

During 5th period

Introduced the Medical Services Classroom notebook to the students and described the importance of using Office 365 for professional use only. Students were able to log in immediately to explore the Notebook.

Gave them this challenge:

Digitize (take a picture of everything you create) or hyperlink any digital projects in their personal space in the Medical Services notebook to create an electronic portfolio.

Creative solutions:

Took a picture with their phone and emailed it to their school account.
Downloaded the One Note app and inserted it directly to the app. It was synched immediately!
Downloaded the One Drive app and uploaded the image.
Learned keyboard shortcuts because right click solutions weren't working.

4th period

Worked with Ms. Giordano to show her the power of One Note Classroom Notebook as a Math coach. We designed one with all of her 11 math teachers as her students. She will think about using it and let me know next time Friday when I return.

2nd & 3rd period students & 7th period planning with Mr. Thomas

Observed class structure and took images for the 3rd period Class Notebook
Add sections and images to STEM 3rd period notebook to be introduced to 3rd period
Introduced the Notebook whole class as one student demonstrated on the projected computer screen.
Defined the importance of writing online and their new permanent record.

During planning, we reviewed the potential of the Classroom Notebook for classroom management and setting goals. Mr. Thomas will upload all his station directions and next Friday, I will help him use the Classroom Notebook for student input.

1st period planning & 5th period Medical Detectives with Ms. Cabrera

Ms. Cabrera expressed interest in creating Classroom Notebooks for each of her sections because she has 11 activities they need to complete when they come back from Thanksgiving.
- The notebook will afford them the ability to be self-paced, creative and to collaborate with others.
We created the shell for each class, added the students and the following categories:
- RAFT strategy*
- Puppet
- Poster
- Newspaper
- Mini children’s book
- Skit or diary
- Shirt
- Song
- Video
- Quiz
The remainder of the semester (3 weeks) will be driven through student input into the Classroom Notebook.
We added the Brain dissecting video to the Medical Services Notebook.

Role of the Writer: Who are you as the writer? A movie star? The President? A plant?

2nd period

Worked with Mr. Ramos, the principal.
- Reviewed all the evidence of STEM Formation in our Class Notebook.
- He loved it so much that he shared the link with the Assistant superintendent, Mr. Allen
Introduced our newest Innovator, Molly Lane to the program.
- Molly is the new LRS at DSCV and is in charge of the new teachers with Ms. Kastanis
- We stepped through the STEM Formation Classroom Notebook where she can add her PD notes, evidence of STEM with her teachers and initiatives she is a part of.
Determined that Mr. Dunn, assistant principal and I would do some walkthroughs and review overall goals, but he had a major issue with a student, a post conference with teachers and had to leave early.
Ms. Kastanis, assistant principal was unavailable.

4th period

Worked with Ms. G on her Classroom Notebook for her math teachers.
Reviewed the STEM Formation notebook

3rd period students & 7th period planning with Ms. Thomas

Discuss a few ideas for class structure during
- Mr. Thomas will be designing 6 new stations for January and upload all the directions into his Classroom Notebook
- Each student will log in daily to their notebook and set their goals for the day BEFORE they can start and their station work.
- Before they can be dismissed, they must clean up their area and enter what they accomplished into the log.

Introduced the students to their new “career” focus for class entry and dismissal
- As the student arrive, they log into their 3rd period STEM Classroom Notebook
- They write one sentence describing their goals for the day specific to their station and date it.
- Mr. Thomas approves and allows them to go to the center they are assigned to for the week.
- At the end of class, they clean their center areas, return to their notebook and enter what they accomplished.
During planning, discussed the pros and cons of this classroom management system
- We decided to get them color coded cups as their tables to indicate when they are ready for Mr. Thomas’s approval.
- Mr. Thomas will experiment with just 3rd period until Christmas break and then implement the system with all of his classes if it improves efficiency.

4th period

Met with Veronca!
- Introduced her to our STEM Innovator Classroom Notebook and made her a co-teacher

5th period

Worked with Mr. McCurry to experiment with One Note on iPads with his students for 1st period tomorrow.
- He created a Class Notebook, entered all his students and we did a few trial and error experiment to get it to work
- Our goal for tomorrow is for his students to take notes in One Note on the iPad while he teaches the lesson.
- We will meet in the Media Center with Mrs. Nelson, the Media specialist who is interested in learning how also.

Mr. McCurry (6th grade math) wanted to experiment with using the iPad version of One Note to connect with One Note Classroom Notebook with his first period
- Challenges and successes
  - App version of One Note doesn’t work until students log into their online version of Office 365.
  - iPad held previous users account info
    - needed to reset in settings each time
  - Students used the drawing tools to create their solutions to math problems.
  - They drawings and text were visible on my laptop as they were working. Amazing.
Mr. Curry decided to try the digital problem solving with his 2nd period.
- Quickly created a One Note Classroom Notebook with Mr. Curry as co-teacher.
- Students were added.
- All students were able to connect and synch their drawings to the online Class Notebook.

3rd period students & 7th period planning with Ms. Thomas

Practiced their new “career” focus for class entry and dismissal
- All students were successful at adding their goals for the day and getting to their activities.
- Most students added to their log at the end of the class to record their accomplishments.
Tried the cup system (turn your red cup to blue) when notes were completed, but it became a distractor more than an enhancement.
Met with Mr. Thomas to discuss management system.
- He agreed to try it each day through Christmas to see if he will implement it with the rest of his classes.

4th period

Reviewed our STEM Formation classroom notebook with Mr. Dunn
Invited Mrs. Nelson (Media Specialist) to join our cohort and she accepted.

6th period

Reviewed our STEM Formation classroom notebook with Ms. Nelson.
- She will be officially join our cohort at our Wednesday night training 12/7/16.

- One of our participants (Karen Spencer is the lead for the Science Fair)
- We helped her set up the remainder of the projects
- Judged a presentation project on tornadoes
- Judged two more projects independently
Ms. Cabrera’s 7th period ClassNotebook is not showing up for the students
- troubleshooting showed that I can not find it easily either
- will rebuild notebook if not solved by 6th period

Observed new “career” focus for class entry and dismissal
- Students are much more efficient about getting right to what they need to do and expressing their goals
- I showed them how to take the data in the Dream House and Chair Design stations and make a table.
  - One student created the table, the others read the data to her.
  - The same student sent an email to each of their teammates with the copied and pasted the table. each of their team.
  - Each teammate pasted the data into their own evidence tab.
- Mr. Thomas rearranged the stations and it was more efficient.

4th & 5th periods

Observed and took images of DNA testing
- Students were given detailed directions to follow before being able to do the procedure.
- All students were successful at testing their DNA.

Reviewed the student log progress
Experimented with grading by rubric once a week at the completion of each station
- The rubric is in the Content Library and can be copied and pasted into the student notes section and then color highlighted for the students’ scores

Mrs. Cabrera was doing crime investigation lab from Project Lead the way.
- Students visited the crime scene
- Ask questions about temperature and death.
- Used probes to determine temperature
- Unable to finish the lab in one day.
